Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

Just looked at O'Reilly's stats for the season...

What in the actual f*** is Dubas doing giving up all those picks on an underperforming rental?

This reminds me of the Foligno trade from 2 years ago

Throw in an extra 1st, that's the kind of package that gets close to landing Meier - which is the type of player (entering his prime, not a pending UFA) the Leafs should've been targeting

Starting to look like the Wings team in 02...
Fedorov Yzerman Shanahan Larionov Hull, Robitaille etc

No. No it is not.

Like I get that we romanticize that team a lot and everything about the 9 Hall of Famers... but frankly, they had Luc Robitaille coming off of three years where he averaged PPG slotted on the third line playing 14 minutes a night. They also had literal, in his prime, Nicklas Lidstrom and added a not yet washed Dominik Hasek. Let's let the team win any f***ing thing before we start comparing them to one of the greatest teams of all time.

Dubas is on the hot seat. He needs to do something to improve this roster, because there truthfully is no reason they haven't won a playoff series yet. They have way more than enough talent to do so and have been missing something in every series. He's probably looking at it and thinking that ROR and his experience in the hard times of the playoffs will make something click this year... and if that's the case, what does it matter if he's dealing away assets at the tail end of the first round and off the bottom lines or Marlies.

He also received Acciari and 75% of O'Reillys contract eaten. It was full value but fair value.

O’Reilly was a PPG for the first 4 games since coming back from injury. No points yet tonight. But Acciari has a goal.

EDIT: Sorry. That should’ve been a reply to the poster you were replying to.

Well, Leafs got their reincarnated Jason Allison. Too bad Muzzin is injured... the potential for Simmonds, ROR, Clifford, and Muzzin to be on the ice at once to slow the game down is a once-in-a-lifetime event.

I think O’Reilly settles in as the Leafs 3C with Acciarri on the 3rd or 4th line which greatly improves the Leafs bottom 6. The bottom 6 has been a bigger issue than the 2LW position.

For the first two games with the Leafs, O’Reilly has been centering Tavares and Marner. He has played with both of them in international tourneys. So, I suspect the idea was to put him there until He actually gets to practice with the team. I’d be surprised if Keene doesn’t try a few different line-ups over the next couple of weeks.

ROR and Noel Acciari have been great so far, don't regret that trade one bit.

It's hilarious that the Leafs even have the option of Matthews Tavares and ROR as their top 3 centers.

I'm comparing the center ice depth.
But Jesus Christ.
No, there's no Lidstrom.
But they do have Marner and Nylander - (66 points each).

That's a f***ing impressive lineup in the salary cap era.

How many teams in the salary cap era can claim a 1-2-3 C as good as Matthews-Tavares-O'Reilly?

Pass around the Haterade my friend.

Substitute "This reminds me of" to "I wish for this trade to be like the Foligno trade. I want it to fall apart for Toronto because I love hating them".

ROR is one of the those players that clearly kicks it into another gear in the playoffs. He has a successful track record in the post season. The cost wasn't cheap but to say Dubas messed up is definitely premature. At least wait and see. It also seems like people just want to hate on Dubas. At least give him some credit for not doing the typical move - which is to get a pure offensive player. He actually got a forward that brings much needed elements to the Leafs and he still gets hated for that? It's like no matter what he does, people will just focus on the cynical flip-side of the coin just to spite him. lol.

Your display pic is how I looked when I read your post.

The funny thing is, I imagine that's how you looked typing it out as well.

I do think the key word there is "close". Close does not count in hockey trades, and it's highly unlikely the Leafs had the assets to win a bidding war for Meier compared to what a highly motivated team with a deep, impressive prospect pool like the Devils can offer.

So, assuming Dubas couldn't land Meier, and seeing other impact forwards like Tarasenko and Horvat already off the board, he made his move. As for whether the cost was too much, that will only be answered when the Leafs post-season is done.

I for one am not that much more enthusiastic about their chances than before this trade (for reasons I've posted volumes about already), but in my opinion ROR and Acciari check off two very important boxes on the check list for what the Leafs need.

Kane has a hat trick tonight. Sure he has been injured but he is obviously not done yet. Sure, the Leafs got O'Reilly, he is coming of injury as well.
O’Reilly missed 14 games this season with a broken foot. Broken bones tend to heal and that’s it. It’s not like a muscle injury that can linger. Kane‘s hip has been a nagging issue for about 3 years. So Kane’s hip is far more likely to pop up as an issue than O’Reilly’s foot.
