Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

ROR was able to slow down the perfection line in the Stanley Cup Finals. Last year it was Mac for Colorado. He will raise his game again this year and really slow down Boston’s top line. Then it will come down to depth and goal tending.

This trade will really help Toronto. The team is much better now then it was prior to the Friday night. It will be interesting to see what Boston, Carolina, and Tampa Bay do now.
Eh he played a part but it was the physicality of that team and their massive defense that did an amazing job keeping things to the outside

This trade is going to turn out terrible for them if they don’t do damage in the post season. And with Tampa and Boston practically locked in as their first two opponents there’s a good chance everyone is laughing at Toronto again come April.

Murray/Samsonov vs Vasey? Lol good f***ing luck.

This reeks of a desperate move from a GM who has spent his entire tenure not understanding where his teams weaknesses are.

Samsonov/Murray will not be worst than campbell and leafs was a ghost call away to eliminate tampa

Tampa is not as good defrnsivly without mcdonaugh

They finished 8, 6 and 6 last 3 in GAA
7th, 4th and 9th in GAx

Now they are 13 th in gaa and 19th in GAx...

You can’t blame Dubas for rolling the dice and paying a high price on a rental. GM’s without a contract have no incentive to look beyond this year.
These playoffs will decide his future and he’s got two tough opponents to get through in the first two rounds.
If I was a Leafs fan I’d be happy with his strategy of loading up. The only question now is whether he bet on the right horse or acquired another Foligno.
This trade has the potential to be a franchise defining one or the epitaph for the Toronto GM.

Toronto technically has a 2024 1st still available but I hope if Dubas does use it it will be someone who has at least 1 more years on contract

Yeah idk if he'd wanna trade another 1st for a rental. I think were out of high profile deals tbh. McCabe would probably top out that list of guys you can maybe acquire without a 1st. Even he might still get a 1st.

Samsonov was brought in to be a backup. He's played more because Dubas' big move was trading for Murray, who was clearly supposed to be the starter. It was a desperate trade, and a bad trade.

I dont think that a gm who lucked into drafting matthews and has failed to win a round despite having one of the most talented teams in the nhl is going to be sought after as a gm again.

Maybe as a stats guy. But never again as a gm

Dubas has done everything and more you could ask of a GM in his years in Toronto.

The failures on the ice happened on the ice, not in the boardroom. The players, not the management, have to win when it matters.

It's not just that though, I mean he said in his press conference the group had earned it, and to be fair they are 3rd or 4th overall in the NHL, he's right they earned it.

On what planet is Murray a starter? Can't stay healthy for years now, and when he was healthy clearly wasn't good enough. They were brought in to be a tandem. Murray was not so much better than Sammy before the season began. They were equals. Predictably, Murray's play turned to shit then he got hurt. Nobody is relying on this guy to carry the load. 100% Samsonov is the starter game 1 of the playoffs, barring injury of course. I agree, it was a desperate trade but I don't think anyone thought Murray was here to be the clear #1. That's fiction.

Move Toronto needed to make. Again this season, I’d they get out of R1, the sky could be the limit. Goaltending still concerns me. Also, side note - boy, Chris Johnston is the ultimate leafs fanboy……
