Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

ok so they had to move down 13 spots to get rid of a contract he signed..... guest thats better
Right because nobody has ever had a bust of a free agent signing before right? Definitely would have been better off if he stubbornly stuck with Mrazek because my god those 13 draft spots were just to much to stomach. We definitely wouldn't be a worse team this year with Mrazek instead of the 13 draft spots we lost.

For the first time in my life, the Leafs actually got the rental I wanted.

Thought for sure we would end up with Kane.

Acciari will be a welcome addition as well, always liked his hustle.

Gotta eat crow on this one, I think Dubas might finally have a playoff team.

This thread is pretty salty

You’d be silly to expect anything else. :P

ROR-started to show signs of slowing last year but was $$$ in the playoffs again.
-This season hard to say everyone played horrible including him. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him once again be $$$ in the playoffs especially as a 3rd line center. I was hoping we would sign him this summer on a cheap 3rd line center $$$.

Accari: Is probably the only Blue this season that has consistently been very good. He is the type of player every playoff team needs in their bottom 6. I'm hoping we try to bring him back this summer...love his play.

TOR did good here, as a Blues fan I'm very happy with the return as well. We now have 3 1sts and still plenty of time to move Barbs and hopefully 1 of our D (krug please).

Horvat's value in 3 months would have been zero for the Canucks. Any player that is about to sign a big money deal has their value fall considerably in a cap league. Horvat at his contract is worth more then ROR at 1.85 million but the difference in value seems reflective in the price paid. I don't think what the other team does with the player is always relevant in the priced paid.
I don’t agree. Most big deals at trade deadline are for UFAs that will be getting ‘big money’ deals. Sure ROR’s deal won’t be as long or as rich as Horvat’s, but there’s a good chance the Horvat deal is more reasonable and bettter value. I’d say the possibility of signing Horvat to a big money deal was a factor that added value to his acquisition, not detracted from it.

What do teams typically pay for a players rights in the offseason? Often not much, it’s a 2nd or 3rd.

Blues fan here. Leafs fans who think ROR is washed up will be eating their words within a week, and you’ll all be raving about him.
They’ll probably be boasting about the trade tonight, apparently him and Acciari caught a private flight out of here and may suit up tonight for HNIC.

Yeah to be fair it’s mostly the peanut gallery saying this.

However you’re right. Sure he is 32, but his worst season before this was his last season in Buffalo. At which point he followed it up with his best season (points wise at least) in St. Louis.

Will he be playing at career highs again? Probably not. However he’s not nearly as cooked as some people are suggesting.

Not as washed as people say, not as good as he was. Quite a rich return considering his season though if he's not signed. Would be a nice add for them if he signs a somewhat team friendly deal with 4 years max.

The one hope I have is that it's still not enough and the Leafs lose in round 1, hopefully in game 7 4th OT so it hurts them more.

I feel u man
ROR is huge for them, I can see them putting it together this year
its possible but TB still is a dangerous team that can win too. it's far in Toronto's favor imo atleast. and past failures always gives me a bad feeling. I do think this is a good move for the Leafs. I dont think Dubas is finished though, his jobs on the line. Ill be surprised if this is it

A move like this felt inevitable.

Overpayment, but for a quality player who seems to be what the Leafs need.

Every GM knows the situation Dubas is in, there was no way he was going to pull off a lopsided trade in his favour for a player like this, even as a rental.

It could have been worse, the Leafs are in a “win now” window, and he’s an exciting player with cup pedigree. Hard to be too annoyed with this trade as a Leafs fan IMO.

Leafs added and have improved however the D and goalie situation is still a major major concern.
