Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

Trade is basically:
ROR for Toronto 1st '23, Ottawa 3rd '23, Toronto 4th '25
or
ROR for Toronto 1st '23, Toronto 2nd '24

Love how people are acting like this isn't fair value for ROR

LOL HF living up to it's name. Every year, some fan of a rebuilding team hypes up the draft.

This draft will be lucky if it can produce the same talent from picks 20-30 that the 2015 draft did. And even that draft didn't feature any stars from the bottom of the 1st round. A good drafting team should be able to pick up some supporting middle 6 players from that part of the draft though.
I dunno time will tell obviously but this one seems very deep. like how 2020 was

If they aren't resigning ROR, that is a lot to give up for him. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th to get him and Acciari. The two players they gave up are essentially nothing.

Mackinnon has never had a better comparative season to Matthews in his career. Matthews has outdone them year 1-7

A rich man's Tyson Barrie isn't worth more than Matthews either, he's overhyped.

Why you acting like this entire site doesn't know you have a gigantic bias against the Leafs?
The only year Matthews outperformed Mackinnon was last year. His whole career. I don't care about seasons 1-7. I responded to a post that claimed Matthews was better than Mackinnon since his rookie year. Clearly false.

Makar is Tyson Barrie? Wow. Someone doesn't watch enough hockey outside their bubble.

You have this moment to explain why Toronto lost this trade.

Admittedly haven’t followed the blues this season. (They’re about as unwatchable as the hawks)

Is ROR cooked? Seems like a really good 3C to have in the playoffs.

I like the deal for both teams.

It's a little on the overpayment side but Toronto losing this wont be a thing unless they fail in the playoffs again.

I think the players acquired is a win for Toronto but the position Dubas is in and how easy it is for other teams to up the ante is a loss. he had to overpay or nothing would happen. Dubas job is on the line.

They are in win now mode I'm just happy our top prospects were not moved.

No Kerfoot in this deal? How is it possible? 95% of HF Toronto proposal involved Kerfoot with the euphemism of “for cap reasons”. LOL

If the Leafs couldn’t include Kerfoot in a swap such as this, can you please stop pushing him in other “deals”?

Why remove a good player from the line-up for cap reasons when cap reasons are not needed?

That’s a widely held perception that he’s cooked. However, with his recent down time due to a foot injury, it’s fair to wonder if the foot was a problem from the beginning. And if he’s past the foot thing, might he be back to normal?

Looking at the Horvat and Tarasenko trades, this seems like overpayment. There was even debate in the ‘how many 1sts get traded’ thread regarding whether ROR would even get a 1st or not. Most felt Kane was worth more, while I argued some team will overpay for ROR. Guess I was right.
Interesting point, but the Leafs did get 75 % retention here on ROR and that factors in quite a bit. ROR at 1.85 million is very valuable to us. Additionally Horvat would have been a pure rental but with ROR he's going to come in at 1/2 the cost as Horvat imo so there's actually a chance he re-signs on a smaller term and dollar deal compared to Horvat. Unless some team comes in and gives ROR 5-6+ million a year long term but that would be a huge mistake imo.

Yesterday before 10pm on HF:

"Toronto's late first is worthless"

After the Trade on HF:

"That late Toronto first is gold".
HF Yesterday:
"Leafs will not move a first or Knies for a rental. Kerfoot and Robertson are available"

HF Today
"Who said our first had no value? We just traded it for a player who is older, can't skate and is having an absolutely terrible season. But it's the team's fault. Not O"Reilly's"

Horvat may have been a pure rental for the Leafs but I’m judging on the package that he actually got from the Islanders, whom he then signed with. So no, ROR is as much or more of a rental than Horvat. Lou planned on signing him and knew well the approximate cost (as did many posters here based on the rumoured rejected deals with Van).

Don’t get me wrong, the Horvat package was better than ROR, but it wasn’t as much better as it should have been given the respective years the two players are having.
