He would be a good 3 C but Imagine O’Reilly 6’2 215 with Matthews 6’3 215. O’Reilly is a legit power forward and good luck messing around with Matthews when O’Reilly is out their.

O’Reilly-Matthews-Nylander
Bunting-Tavares-Marner

Best top 6 in the NHL.

Yeah man, no one strikes fear into the hearts of opposing players like Ryan O’Reilly.

At least the Leafs are trying, gotta give em that. I like the Tarasenko acquisition from NYR a lot more though. Let's see how ROR does im Toromto before judging.

I mean he's only a rental if he doesn't re-sign in Toronto. Dubas said he wasn't moving a 1st for a rental and of all the trash that has been said of him I've never seen him called a liar. Wouldn't be surprised to see O'Reilly back on the Leafs next season.

I dont think I've ever seen a 1st round pick 2nd round pick 3rd pick 4th round pick given away for a rental. This is historic. Absolutely Armstrong hit out of the park here.

Two rentals.

4th was for retention….. which I don’t think we needed?

Didn’t he win the smythe and beat the bruins?

We haven't yet either. Acciari is no throw in. Minnesota got the fourth for retention and a prospect- a low end one.

Leaf’s did good but paid too much
Blues did good and ROR may come back

The wild lose the trade. A quarter of ROR salary and a past fourth for a fourth.

ROR loses the trade as he wanted to stay in StL. He may take max time to report

It seems a lot Leafs fan think there getting Blues cup winning O’Reilly

The best thing Toronto can do is find ROR a spot on a line and LEAVE him there. He obviously struggled with the loss of Perron, but Chief shuffled him around so damn much that he never had that “I know where you’re going to be” type of tendencies/chemist with anyone. He’s not 19’ ROR, but the guy still has it! They need to spend the rest of the season gelling him with two (at least one line mate) particularly one with great puck control skills. You guys won’t think twice about giving up those picks if you take advantage of his best attributes. I wish him luck. Acciari has been really damn solid for us all year. Perfect bottom 6 center for the playoffs.

Selfishly due to the 1st round pick location, I want them to lose in the 1st round. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them win the cup.

The Leafs could acquire McDavid and Pastrnak at the deadline for third round picks and I’d still be surprised to see them win the Cup.

That’s not logical, but neither is that team never being able to escape the first round with their roster for much of the last decade.

As a leaf fan, I like the acquisition... but certainly not the price. It's essentially a 1-2-3-4 for ROR and Acciari.

They had a sparse 2022 draft, and an even sparser 2021 draft. Sure, both Minten & Knies are looking like good picks right now, but they're now looking at potentially drafting in the 5th and 6th round this year. It's not like they have the flexibility to jump around years either -- next year they're already short on draft picks.

This deal would have been a lot more palatable if it preserved our draft capital, and maybe took advantage of whatever value a guy like Robertson has left. I also don't believe the Leafs should be done... they still haven't addressed the fact that on every given night, when healthy (Muzzin is done), 4 of the 6 defencemen in the lineup should probably be on your bottom pair, or at the most, your #4 guy. They also lack physicality back there.

That being said, you've gotta like the fit. If ROR is a centre (which is where I'd probably put him), it gives them the same nightmare matchup problem they had when Kadri was on the team (and not suspended). That gives Keefe a much greater control of the game.

With Horvat off the table to a team that I don't believe is going to be a major factor, and Toews questionably on the market, ROR may be far and away the best depth centre that draft picks could buy. I think part of the reason Toronto makes this deal, is knowing that Boston & Tampa can't add ROR.

Gotta also give some kudos to Armstrong here...he's not that far back of a playoff spot, the West is seemingly quite weak this year; but realizing that he probably doesn't have it this year -- so take advantage of a "reset" and rebuild your draft capital.

So a late 1st + late 2nd for ROR retained (Leafs can always re-sign him in the offseason, he's from Ontario if playing near home means something)

and a 3rd + 4th for Accari

Leafs weaknesses were a 3C, more depth scoring and physicality. They've gotten all 3 with this trade.

Asking HF to be impartial about a Leaf trade is like asking a redneck how they feel about BHM

I hate the effing LA Rams (see my username you’ll understand why lol). However they’re GM wore a “eff them picks” t-shirt to their championship parade. A Stanley Cup is worth going through a sluggish rebuild. This coming from a lifelong Blues fan that knows (despite some great young talent and a pending shot at the lottery) we’re headed right for one and will say it was worth it. Seeing the Blues lift the cup was the single best moment ever. Way better than seeing the Cards win two World Series and the STL Rams win the Super Bowl.

Not a Leaf fan, but I really like this move for them. Their window is now. They fill two big holes by acquiring both players. Acciari isn’t afraid to throw his weight around and is exactly the type of player Toronto can use on the 4th line.

Whether ROR is the same as he was a few years back or not, the trade also sends a bold message to the players that they are all in to win this year and hopefully that’s enough of a boost to get them a few rounds won in the playoffs this year.

Honestly it's another Foligno case where they're buying on a player who doesn't exist anymore. ROR is better than Foligno was though at least.

Precisely. No top prospects left the leafs organization aswell.

But then again, Orielly could be a 3rd liner with no wheels, accari could be a mediocre plug and the 1st they dealt could be mcdavid 2.0. "Could". Im sure hfb will milk that small percentage of likelihood.
