for the record Mrazek's injury last year was a thumb injury that required surgery. I assume the medicals are cleared and the good news is that it's not some kind of lingering core or leg injury which can really sabotage a goalie.

meh. all that matters is that Mrazek is a very safe bet to come in healthily above Fred's .895sv% from last year.
Yeah comments like this don't really make a case for Mrazek. We could sign a goalie for 1 mil and be done with it then. I'm aware how trash Fred was last year due to his leg issues.

to each his own. but mrazek is a much safer bet to beat Freddy's .895 from last year than Freddy is, imo.

About $5.6M remaining cap space for 3 forwards and a defenseman.

Good insurance. Campbell is still a long term question mark, this de-risks our goalie situation somewhat.

TSN panel discussion on Leafs new tandem not really selling confidence, but as a downgrade in net overall as step down from Freddy, but a needed move due to limited cap $$ resources.

Freddy at $4.5 mil now and Mrazak at $3.8 mil saves the Leafs $700k in the exchange.

I think it's a reasonable deal, Mrazek has his moments. Not sure they can afford that good of a 2nd goalie though, and then if Campbell outplays him, which is still pretty likely IMO, he'll want more.

He was hurt though, come on. Zero context, and I say this as someone who isn’t sad he’s gone.

that's fine.

the point is he was bad though, and one of the biggest weaknesses on the team no matter the reason why, and we got a very safe bet to be a nice upgrade on that, at the very least.

as for fred's injuries - they seem to be accumulating, and of the type that can eventually destroy a goalie's career. especially a big one like him. Of course, he may well bounce back - goalies are voodoo.

Still unknown this a Stanley Cup caliber tandem, but we desperately needed another starter option, so he’s plugged a hole. Fingers crossed.

Like I said I didn’t want him back, unless we had no other options. This guy was good last year, almost lost the job to McBackup the year prior, so he isn’t a slam dunk either but decent for sure.

So Mrasek is younger, cheaper, better than Freddie, what were the canes thinking?

Yes. Dubas is so much smarter than the Carolina brass. That’s probably why Carolina is a contender and why the Leafs get bounced in the first every year.

Freddie had one bad year and was hurt. One…. And people act like he’s washed. I don’t even mind the signing of Mrazek it just ensures that this pathetic front office get fired after this season.
