Not that big a fan of Mrazek but hopefully he turns out good for us.

Mrazek is an okay goalie but failed with a much better team and way better defensive team the last 3 years.
That same team let him walk and instead signed Freddy, interesting.

All 3 goalies have not produced in playoffs.

In regular season before last year Freddy was above average and won many games carrying the team.
I don't see these 2 doing anywhere near that well and the defense is still lousy so that will not help either.

Back into a tough division instead of a bit of a gift last year in the Canadian division this tandem will make it touch and go for a playoff spot and even if we sneak in another very quick exit.

Dubas just wasted another Matthews year and more regression instead of progression.

At this point, it's a wait and see. Im indifferent about this.

I am no longer getting my hopes up about anything, doesn't matter who we get really.

This team has lacked making a deep playoff run for years and im mentally exhausted.

OUR CORE needs to play better, period. If Matthews, Marner, Nylander all played extremely hard, put everything on the line in the playoffs, this team can be seriously dangerous. Until then, this team will never make it far.

Not negativity, just keeping it 100.
Matthews led the team in shots, blocked shots, takeaways and hits. Nylander sniped 5

to each his own. but mrazek is a much safer bet to beat Freddy's .895 from last year than Freddy is, imo.
Not really interested in a mrazek versus fred age of 30s showdown though. My concern is better playoff performances and so far we're worse (goaltending) than some of our previous losses.

Money is a bit high but Mrazek is also arguably the third best option on the market beside Grubauer and Ullmark (both of whom are rumoured to be getting much larger deals than this).

Andersen was also in this range and he received about the same kind of contract (less term/more money). Mrazek is at least younger and hasn't been a total mess the past two years (although he wasn't great in the regular season last year).

Guys are getting paid, and goalie was the one spot I don't think we were going to compromise. We can save money up front.

EDIT: Mrazek will be playing all three years at a younger age than Andersen's first year of his new deal. Mrazek goes from 29-31. Andersen goes 32-33.

They took care of their primary need immediately. So that's a positive.

Bogosian on cheap to TB. $850k a year x3. Savard heads to the Habs.

Leafs better get bigger and meaner in the backend. It's the reality of this division.

It’s a good point he played on a stronger defensive team. I don’t mind this pickup, primarily because we desperately need a backup plan if Campbell falters, but the goalie situation is still fluid IMO.

So Mrasek is younger, cheaper, better than Freddie, what were the canes thinking?

Andersen at $4.5 mil is starter money and expected to play 60+ games like he has in the past, and Mrazek at $3.8 mil is being brought in as tandem and 1B expected to split games maybe 50/50 with Campbell with no real starter but Leafs going with the hot hand in net.

Leafs save $700k and that allows Leafs to sign another depth player making league minimum.

freddy is 3 years older than mrazek, for the record.

Why can’t we get Bogo for that??? Wtf.

He likely gets a top 6 job there, he is getting a ton of term (not that that matters), the money goes further (so we'd need to pay more), and he won in Tampa.

He has to compete for his job here next year. He did not want to do that obviously. He also is not a fan of playing in Canada again with Covid still being uncertain.

He obviously didn't like what he saw with the team. Maybe he wanted the sunshine again, I don't know. I assume winning a round or two could have helped.

I'm starting to think that an entitled player or two on this roster is going to push away hard nosed winners. What a disaster it will be if this franchise is dragged back because of loyalty to the wrong breed of player.

He had to compete for a job here? Where exactly? I take it he just didn’t want to be here, what a steal for TB.

This doesn't take away that Matthews did step up, and Nylander scored. However, it was ultimately not enough. Matthews was dragged around like a ragdoll. Have to stand up for yourself. Smirking and looking at the ref is not what we need.

Mitch is and always has been scared. He likely had it far too easy when he was younger and now with the big boys on a massive contract, he can't handle it.

Regardless, my statement still stands. They need to play way more harder but doesn't take away the fact that they did step up a bit, but too little too late. Playing harder also means MENTALLY, not just physically. This core group needs to be way more mentally tough. It's been how many years and only NOW they take a small step? I'm tired and exhausted of this. After 15+ years of watching this crap, I.Have.Had.Enough.

Bogo going back to chase more Stanley Cups in TB.

Its official he signed with Tampa 3 years for $2.55 mil and $850k AAV.
What a deal. He must not like playing in Canada, he’s worth every penny of that.

Yes, the 700k savings is going toward re-signing Jumbo :help:
