Both goalie positions filled for 5.45 is really good

Hopefully we can get rid of Kerfoot or Mik for something good so we can reallocate their cap as well.

This is an area you can't cheap out though. We give up assets anyway for players that play 9 games for us

Canes needed a goalie and they wanted to move away from Mrazek. Canes feel the same way we feel about Andersen.

If that's good I guess that's good. Mrazek isn't an upgrade at all but what do I know

It absolutely is an area you do NOT need to pay assets for. There is about 20 goalies available through UFA, why would you pay anything to acquire one. Especially for one who hasn't proven anything. Driedger is basically Florida's version on Campbell. Why would we then pay to acquire a goaltender who is exactly like what we currently have. Maybe if Driedger hit UFA then sure take a swing at him. Mrazek's numbers are comparable to Andersen's, so if you can't get Andersen you get someone similar to him.

Carolina's front office is a shit show right now. They had a goalie who out performed Andersen this year in Nedelkovic (who they had control over) and traded him because they didn't want to pay him and then are going to pay Andersen more!? Just absolutely disgraceful.

It's not an overpayment in the current market.

It is when driedger gets 3.5.

Leafs signed a goalie who struggled to be in the net because of injury to pair with their goalie who struggled to be in the net because of injury. What could possibly go wrong.

Well, they can both have manageable workloads now and mitigate the likelihood of injuries.

nice we get to have a direct head to head battle for the next 2yrs as to who did better getting a goalie.

Mess at least post some context, he was injured this year.
lol the new guy gets context but when people bash Fred about last season his injuries don't exist.

Mrazek will get a clean and fair slate from me but our goaltending is worse compared to prime Fred days, and non-prime Fred still has better playoff performances than Mrazek. He gave us a chance to win both the bruins and jackets series. I wonder what Canes could have done with 18/19 and 19/20 playoff Fred over Mrazek.

This is our first time in 6 years being in the Atlantic without a prime Fred. It's worrisome. Mrazek seems promising but he's never done anything to make this worry go away.

lol we really complaining about $400,000? Anything under 4 million is a win

That's the issue with being cap constrained. A few hundred thousand shouldn't matter but it does with our current roster.

That said, completely fine with Mrazek @ 3.8M, maybe one-year too much and happy with a Campbell-Mrazek tandem.

I have no words if you think a 27 year old goalie with 35 career games is your point to try to prove an overpay.

Agreed, however what did you want the leafs to do? $4.5 is too rich, maybe if we move Kerfoot there could have been a chance, but Dubas has done it to himself really. I would have preferred to bring Andersen back.

not big on Mrazek either he is really up and down

Being in Michigan, I watch the Wings are much as Toronto. Mrazek is very streaky. He's also always caught out of position. He's also not that big. Overall I think he's not worth 3.8 million on a team with zero cap room.

As someone said above, Toronto basically has two 'meh' goalies to ride now.

That's true but there's claims going around here that are simply false and have nothing to do with cap hits.

Nobody here can prove Mrazek is a better option in the playoffs over what we used to get from Fred. He doesn't have the numbers to back it up. Freds peripherals are sound and you can even make the case Canes were better off with 18-20 Fred over Mrazek in the playoffs.

Then people talk about injuries acting like Fred didn't have any either last season.

People who are worrying about the goaltending next season are justified to do so and Mrazek versus Fred next season is closer than people think if Freds performance last season was due mostly to injuries.

meh. all that matters is that Mrazek is a very safe bet to come in healthily above Fred's .895sv% from last year.
