So I'm going through my head of players he's brought in from the Soo. A lot of them were from before he was there but I'll try to list them.

Muzzin
Simmonds (1 year after spending 2 in Owen Sound)
Bunting
Sandin
Hollowell?
Thornton

Which ones are soft? It's possible I'm missing some. Hollowell could be considered small but he was a 5th round pick (one of only two Soo players the Leafs have drafted in Dubas' time with the Leafs). He's fought a few times in Marlies games I've watched.

I don't love all of the moves he makes but this lazy narrative is weird to me. Who did I miss?
He wasn't saying the players from the Soo are 'soft', there is an 'and' in his statement that you're missing.

I said "soft, skilled, smurfs and players from the Soo" not "soft, skilled, smurfs from the Soo".
So which of those players 'from the Soo' do you take issue with? Most of them were signed for around league minimum.

Muzzin is the only one at over 1 mill in AAV that was given term.

I was referring to the Murray trade and Dubas not extracting enough of a return. The smurfs have nothing to did with the Soo, hence why I used "and".

I believe the difference between a quick read error and an intentional misrepresentation is whether or not there is doubling and tripling down on it.

I acknowledged that. I don't particularly like the Murray trade either. Definitely not enough sweetner was brought back in that trade. Part of your statement was that he can't pass up on players from the Soo.

I listed players with a Soo connection that he brought in. There are about 5 that I can recall. I was wondering which of these you felt were catastrophic.

Didn't mean to 'jump on you'. Just asked a few questions. After all, I'm unbiased since 02.

"Soft, skilled, smurfs" and then posts a goalie as his example" seems like it. When I spoke of Murray I was not giving an example of soft, skilled players from the Soo which was not my claim.

Ritchie was another one. Not counting McCann since he was barely here.

I'm sorry that I hurt your feelings. Please accept my apologies. Care to answer my question or should we all just move on at this point since you're dodging it.

Ritchie was a terrible move. No one can argue against that. He did okay in moving it and bringing in a D that was useful for the Leafs but that move should have never been made in general.

My question is more so related to this incredibly lazy Soo argument. We have a 1LW and a 2LD with a Soo connection. Should we have not brought them in because of where they played junior hockey?

Ritchie. Former Dubas client Clifford essentially taking himself out the playoffs in the 1st period of game 1. And we were told that our departing Soo alum goalie was the reason why the team didn't win in past 2 playoffs.

Ritchie one was horrible. Clifford is a nothing piece that they acquired for free (the second time). All things considered I would say the Campbell trade was a pretty good one.

I definitely missed a few though. Forgot about those ones.

Love how some posters use the word Soft to describe our players, but then get all defensive when called out. Almost like they themselves are soft....
Anyways back to my day. Lol

Jumbo, Simmonds over Perry twice, bringing back Cliffy, but mostly the Murray trade which we actually see eye to eye on.

add in the head coach and another bestie from the Soo in Wes Clark who's our Director of Amateur Scouting as well as Ass't Director of Player Personal and didn't our new goalie coach work in the Soo previously ?

Jumbo and Simmonds were signed for under 1 mill. I'd 100% agree with you if they weren't buriable contracts though.

Clifford was part of that initial Campbell trade which I would say was a pretty good trade. Clifford the second time was for future considerations,

I love Perry and would have preferred him over any of them (I'd imagine if we went back and looked at the Free Agency threads at that time I was pulling for Perry to be signed).

My thing is simply that the Soo angle is very overblown. Bunting and Muzzin (and I'd throw Campbell in there as well) have all been pretty solid players for the Leafs.

The Murray trade itself is not very good (especially considering we essentially helped Ottawa) but we shouldn't forget that Ottawa was in a full blow rebuild when they signed Murray and their D was putrid. Would be tough for any goalie to put up good numbers in front of that team the last 3-5 years. Neither of us can judge the play of Murray in a Leafs uniform yet so obviously the jury is still out on that one.

Agreed.

There are lots of other goalies he could have chosen with similar or lesser caphits.

How would he acquire them? With what draft picks and prospects was he able to use to acquire them. Ottawa had an offer with rentention and draft pick throw-ins. He cleans up his 2021 drade deadline mess and acquires a starting goalie. Or an often injured one at that.

Murray was crap 2 out of the last 3 yrs he was in Pitt as well as his 2 seasons in Ott.

The same way their new teams acquired Kuemper, Campbell, Husso, etc.
