or Bracco is not rated as highly by NHL GM's as he is in the Leaf's fanbase?
He’s not that highly rated by most of the fanbase anymore, either.
Mostly because of the cloud of uncertainty and mystery around him the past season.
Most hope for the best, though.

I think Lindgren could still amount to something. He has one more year of waiver exemption and can realistically be a top 4 RD in the AHL next year. If he takes a leap forward, he could challenge for a bottom pairing role in 2021-2022.

It was just not going to happen here with Liljegren in the system coming up at the same time, so I had a suspicion that he would be traded. Duszak and Hollowell have two more years of exemption so there is more time for them.
Agreed with all of this. Wish we had traded Duszak instead of Lindgren. We could use a guy like Lindgren on the3rd pair in a few years. Solid defensively, patient with the puck and a good skater.

I mean a guy who cares about the record isn't diving face first in front of the puck in a game 7. And we gave him more years and more money than San Jose was offering for the privilege? I didn't think I could have a worse opinion about the signing but here we are.
Here here unbelievable Babs went to bat for him in that scenario ... Babs had great 1st impressions over coaching him in international hockey and it does not translate to NHL but Babs was too Euro for my liking ... it was worst mistake he made as it costs us a 2020 1st, CAP problems in 3rd year of deal and a year of hockey where he hurt team being on da ice ... i was actually surprised he played so well in his first year here but father time eventually won

Leafs "horizon" is 2022. Then Robertson, Hållander, Liljegren and Sundin will be c-h-e-a-p. What kind of RD-man might E-Rod, K-Foot or J-Son bring? It's all about "option" value right now. Be cheap and maybe good or else disposable. Mikko Lehtonen will be a blessing this coming season.

We looks fantastic.....So did Luke Schenn.
Schenn had potential. Unfortunately, the staff told him to bulk up which affected his skating negatively. Combine that with Wilson's silly rule about always having two hands on the stick, which really hurt a guy like Schenn who wasn't very mobile, he ended up getting beat wide a lot. He also had a muffin of a shot.

I have concerns about Schneider's upside, but I do think he has more tools than Schenn had. I wouldn't be upset if the Leafs took him, but I always prefer they take the best player available, regardless of positional needs.

Yeah I’ve been thinking him as a possibility too. I’ve never seen a goalie get this much hype before a draft since Price. So that being said, it’ll be hard to believe he will be available at 15. If he is, it’ll be a real decision to make.
Yeah, I agree. I think one of Carolina or Edmonton will take him if he is around at 13/14, so you would have to hope you can get up to 12.

Kid sure has a lot of hype, and I agree - not sure a goalie has got this much pre-draft attention since Price.

Schneider seems like a great pick if he is there, but I am betting the pick is traded for D help now.

Luke Schenn has almost 800 NHL games.

If you can get that with the #15 pick, you take it everytime.

I understand the upside question, but that's still fantastic value.

No it isn't.

You may as well swing for the fence a bit since there's always Luke Schenn types floating around out there willing to play for 1-year deals at league minimum, as he is.

1st round picks are where you grab yourself rare talents that aren't available through any other means than the draft.

He definitely has more skill at this stage but the game is also soooo much faster as well. Schenn also had enough time to figure it out.

To me Schneider looks fantastic, but I've only seen that team Canada clip and because we didn't have a first round pick I have not kept myself up to date this year.

This would be a great argument is he succeeded elsewhere instead of continuing a downward trend across various organizations as training focuses continued to evolve.

Looks more like Schenn was a low ceiling physically mature defenseman without a good skillset. The mistakes he made at 19 were the same he made at 26 because he never developed in any organization which landed him as a spare part NHLer for the last 3 years.

Goalies are voodoo, I would pencil Campbell in for 40~ games and run an on-going trio of smaller/older/overseas goalies at cheap contracts coming up and down from the Marlies. This way, you give Campbell his reps and you also get to weed out the non-performers and bury them. You also get some insurance as well in case of injury.

Guys to aim for: Dell, Anderson, Miller, Kaskisuo.

The thought of letting go of Andersen isn't popular and I'm not sure the kind of value a year rental at $5M will be perceived league-wide. There's also the 10-team NTC. It will all depend on where the team is at come trade deadline, getting rid of Andersen in the offseason and not replacing him with a similarly equivalent talent doesn't send a good message to the team.
The "team" did not send particularly good messages to management and the fan base this season either. Being beaten by your own practice goalie could be seen as a middle finger message from the team on the ice to all those of Leaf Nation. Here is is message that should be sent to the team.."play better or choose a new career."

I am pretty sure they made it a 3yr deal because Lou fully expected him to retire after the first 2. Why he didn't just pay him for a 2yr deal and not leave it up to the player for the 3rd year is the big mistake. We had the cap room back then...they should have paid his signing bonus on the 1st of july...not spread it over that day and later in the season. They could have paid him off and then shipped him out like Datsyuk. Lou trusted Patty and we got burned. If he wanted a character player ...Justin William's would have been the guy I wanted.

Reactions: JT AM da real deal
I like Kappy, but he's still very inconsistent. Probably ends up scoring 30 with Crosby.

Next move out Johnsen too. Kerfoot could go as well.

So it's the deconstruction of the Dubas construction phase. I don't mind it. They are useless.

Trade: 1st Round pick is nice. Kappy wasn't consistent.

It's a 35+ contract, it stays on the cap even if he retires. There's no way to get out of the 3rd year other than trading him or LTIR.

I'd argue that by the time Schenn got traded, the damage to his development had already been done. Even so, he's only 30 years old and has played 750 NHL games. Not a terrible career, all things considered.

Retirement would have killed the Leafs because it was an over 35 contract and his cap hit stays regardless of whether or not he retired.

Lou/Babcock really messed that one up.

So many mistakes it drives me nuts ... I still can't believe there were tons of teams lining up for him ... gotta imagine it was us and SJ ... clearly no character only $$$$ and maxing out $$$$ ... he showed da kids how to get MAX from Leafs .. worst signing EVER
