I think most of us are wanting Braden Schneider. He’s considered the best shut down D man in the draft.

That would be ideal. After drafting Sandin, grab a shutdown potential RHD and keep building our D.
As time goes by, if the forward core (or team can’t get it done), at least we will be building a next gen defensive core.

don’t know anything about the player. Is he skilled offensively? Is he likened to a Hedman, Doughty, Pietrangelo, Weber, Carlo, McAvoy, Ellis, Parayako type shutdown or a Bogosian, Luke Schenn type shut down?

Not really gifted offensively and lacks a great slap shot. All things he can improve on. Fantastic at gap control and pretty much everything else

i.e., does he have a brain in his head. either way at this point i trust this leafs management staff to not draft a player that does not have a high hockey iq.

I think Brent Seabrook makes the most sense from what I’ve seen.

Eh that doesn't sound exactly great. Would much rather us just take the best player available rather then just looking for a right shot defensemen at all costs.
Not gifted offensively but not inept by any means. Can move the puck even if he’s not putting up Barrie Colorado offense. Can play the PP point and more importantly can defend all areas of the ice. Has strength, can be physical and handle the forecheck.

I’d say that’s pretty much what we haven’t had in a very long time. Kind of the guy we’ve been hoping to pair with a Rielly like forever.

Here are some Team Canada highlights with Craig Button comments

I think what happens alot is when certain D get labelled "defensive", some people just assume low skilled (Luke Schenn).

Sometimes that is the truth but other times its not accurate and the player can actually be a shutdown defensive D while also having a good skillset like a Brodin, Manson, Muzzin etc.

You can see from that video that Schneider is a excellent skater, has poise with the puck and is active offensively.

Not saying we should draft him but have noticed this trend of people hating on potential draft prospects because they have the shutdown defencemen tag.

We could definitely use alot of the characteristics he brings tho.

This is an understatement.

I don’t think he’ll be there at 15, but if he is I think along with Sandin he’d make an excellent long term solution to our D.

I can see him going at 10 to Winnipeg who desperately need D.

He should well better be thinking of keeping Bracco minimum.
I would like to see Bracco come to camp and just pkay hard and confident.
The uncertainty around this guy continues.

If it was disciplinary, you’d imagine the team would be fine saying something about it. If it’s something private, I hope he’s getting through it and can make his way back.

He was projecting well up until early this season as an offensive contributor.

For me you draft BPA, not for your current needs. If there's a forward with top 6 potential or an OFD, take him. Not comparing the two at all, but after Schenn, I'm a little gun shy on DFDs that high up. But he does look absolutely legit

They will likely go for Jake Sanderson

If Askarov is available you jump on him. Even Quinn, these are solid prospects

Schinider ceiling isn't nearly as high as those two

I am not saying we should or should not take him but there should be more to it then he shoots right handed and is good defensively to justify the pick. If there is then great go for it. Otherwise take the best available talent. Because while he might be what we have been looking for beside Rielly for years...He is also probably 3 years away and we might fill that need in the meantime and others will emerge. So take the best player.

why dump dermott for an elc ready to play bottom 6 forward? Just sign one of those to league min. Like thornton or something.

dermott is still on a development trajectory, these are the guys (with sandin and liljegren) its important to be patient with.
Tough to be patient with all of Dermott, Sandin and Lilj given all need to start or continue playing and none are ready for anything above bottom pair duties. You could throw Holl in there too

What makes you think that?

I’m on the Askarov wagon. Our goaltending depth is pathetic and this kid has Vaselivsky (sp) potential so I don’t think BPA is a consideration here. Reminds me a lot of Shestyorkin as well.

If we had 13 we would have had to trade Kap instead of our first last offseason so how do we get 15 in that scenario?

IMO comes down to working out a better deal (bridge??) with Marner so you could retain part of Marleau's cap hit in which case you did not have to give up the first to dump Marleau. No sense in beating up a dead horse but you asked :)

Says who?

What's Schinders upside? Maybe a descent two way D. Where Askarov ceiling is a potential superstar and a franchise goalie

Jack Quinn growth this year has been rediclous. Going from 12 goals to 52 insane jump.

thought we traded Liljegren when i first saw this and was like wtf.

i like the trade a lot better when i read his name properly.
