Different lipstick...same pig.

Seems like a trade that both sides can grumble about at worst; it seems fair. Laughton is not a needle mover but he’s versatile and depth is needed in the playoffs. This also helps the Flyers tank as they basically have AHL level center depth now

Dunno if Laughton really moves the needle for me. I guess the 2nd year of term is a nice part, but... Idk, middle 6 forward.

Maybe they are confident he'll fit well.. I guess we'll see how it goes.

Steep prices. Grebenkin is a solid prospect who will be loved in Philly. He throws his weight around, has some skill , is a funny kid and likely tops out as a 3rd liner. Oddly enough, probably the type of player the Leafs lack at the nhl level.

This isn’t even remotely close to some of the brutal overpays of this week - - tremendous deal by Treliving.

Flyers undersold on Kuzmenko and they undersold again with Laughton.

Grebekin is a goofy try-hard with some cute little sound bites but he’s a career minor leaguer. Please don’t embarrass yourself by proclaiming Grebekin is a “top prospect”.

Getting 50% retention for this year AND next year is huge. Most cases it’s just retention for pending UFAs.

Giving up a future 1st round pick ALWAYS has less value than giving up a current year’s 1st round pick.
They also have the player for next years run as well. So two bites at the apple

Good deal for the Leafs. They needed a 3rd line center and got one who can kills penalties for 1.5 million/year.

The first they gave up is 2027, will be bottom third of the draft and have zero impact for at least 5 years if the player even makes the NHL.

Grebenkin can't skate and has a whopping 9 goals on the Marlies and will be a fringe 4th liner at best.

It is steep but this is trade deadline and you pay trade deadline prices.

Laughton is the kind of player there were probably a dozen teams in on.

Good add for the Leafs.

Not a bad deal but I think you're swinging a bit too hard the other way.

Grebenkin may not have been an A+ prospect but career minor leaguer is a bad take. He was a solid prospect, coming off a strong KHL season. That he even got a sniff of NHL games this year is a credit to a 21-year old 5th round pick who barely speaks English.

And with Reavo clearing waivers, he basically replaces his cap hit in the line up. 1.15M gone with Reaves.

Well he scored 19 last year in KHL at 20, must be moving a bit.
Late 1sts make the league at a decent rate. Cowan 28th? Sanford 31? Minten 38? Knies 57th?

Your « at least » 5 yrs « rule » means Cowan should play in 2028 and Knies should come in 26-27.
Silly post

I don't like the deal, but I don't hate the deal. We kept Minten and Cowen which is key. A 1st feels a bit rich, but it's the Trade Deadline, that happens

He's popular, and fun... He plays with a ton of energy, is physical, will drop the gloves... has a ton of character, so, ya people are disappointed he's gone. I am too.

But objectively, this is a 0.5 PPG guy in the AHL. That doesn't translate to much in the NHL in all probability... he looks like he might be a 4th liner... they are pretty easy to replace, or pick up in UFA.
He’s a 21 year old rookie playing in a country where he doesn’t speak the language.

Laughton showed a different level in the bubble I'm happy he will get an opportunity to play playoff hockey the next two years. He sure wasn't getting it in Philly

Good-bye Scottie, thanks for all the effort, and enjoy your time in Toronto, playing for your fave growing up! Hope you don't get too rough of a ride, although that's probably asking too much...scrutiny will be high.

As has been said...Laughton has been a much more occasional C lately, more used as a winger. Lately has played down and only a bit up the lineup. His PK work the last 3 years has been fantastic, he's been a SH goal magnet at times (17 SH points in 3 seasons), and the Flyers certainly produced tons of SH opportunities with him on the ice. Pair him with someone to take advantage in similar ways, and you may have a useful weapon. ES, well, you will see for yourselves if he helps...or not. Be nice.
