What are the conditions on the 1st? Because that seems like a steep price for Laughton, but that changes if the conditions are like "the Leafs win the Cup and he plays at least 50% of their playoff games."

I keep seeing "3C" being mentioned, but Laughton is better on the wing at this stage of his career because of his defensive struggles. Laughton has been out scored 91-63 at 5on5 the past two seasons while the other guys used by the Flyers at center in that time all did far better, and they aren't world beaters.

Probably one of the more reasonable deals at the TDL. Fills an important need for the Leafs. The extra year of term and 50% retention make a big difference.

I wasn’t that big on Grebenkin either. Your view on his potential is likely going to drive how you view the trade. Cool kid, funny, physical, but I just don’t see a top 6 nhler. But I could be wrong.

thats what people are saying yeah, I havent seen anyone call him a top prospect though

He's popular, and fun... He plays with a ton of energy, is physical, will drop the gloves... has a ton of character, so, ya people are disappointed he's gone. I am too.

But objectively, this is a 0.5 PPG guy in the AHL. That doesn't translate to much in the NHL in all probability... he looks like he might be a 4th liner... they are pretty easy to replace, or pick up in UFA.

Half of hf boards never heard of Grebs and Leafs gave away late first round pick. Who cares, okay trade.

The thing is, the Leafs need either a 3C or depth scoring. They got a 3LW who doesn't score much and who isn't going to be the game changer for their playoff run. It feels like a move just for the sake of a move and a bit desperate.

Florida, Tampa and more have got better and the Leafs have barely moved the dial with this trade.

So after thinking about this deal I don't see how if you are a Leaf fan you can be against this.

It sucks to give up Grebs, it does I think Torts is going to LOVE him when he played in Toronto he had one gear and that was GO he gave it his all EVERY shift.

but he is bot a top 3 prospect on the team those are Minten, Cowan and Danford and as of now they are all intact.

the 2026 1st is still intact

and the 2027 1st is protected so if everything were to fall apart the pick slides to 2028, at least I assume it does thwy haven't actually said the conditions.

to me that's a resonable price for a quality piece that makes you better NOW.

particularly considering Philly retained 50% and you get 2 picks.

I'm good with Grebs and a 2027 protected 1st

His numbers were terrible last year but he's rebounded this year. He would look better using a 3 year or 1 year sample. Top 3 on the team in xGF% this season.

I love these posts. Which impact dman? be specific and what both teams agree on for the price.

Leafs have lost the last 3 years because they can't score goals in the playoffs. That is factual. It has never been an issue of keeping the puck out even with suspect goaltending
Ok, so scoring goals was the problem.

How then does trading a 1st plus a good prospect for Scott Laughton help with that?

Career high of 18.

6 total career playoff goals.

I really don't like the price. A 1st and a good prospect should get you a much better player. I'd have been fine with that for Brayden Schenn, not Laughton.

Congrats on the win, Flyers fans.

Now that he's a Leaf, I hope he plays as good as his interviews sound.

not going to lie, losing Grebenkin doesnt bother me all that much, spending more 1sts does. I dont really believe in this team and imo they have no business spending to try and win anymore, they have done this for years and no matter how much they improve nothing ever changes. it's almost like the real issue is the core.

I mean Ill be watching still anyways because anything CAN happen but after almost a decade of this I think we have seen this story playout

What was the QoC for those other players vs Laughton? Most common linemates etc.

I remember saying this about Marchment.

Yeah, conditional 1st round pick - any rumors this anyone?
