Kyle Dubas betting it all on a Matt Murray making 4.69mil for 2 years. He has the potential to look like a genius, or time will prove we basically have another Mrazek. I will say though, his familiarity with the player...he likely knows who, as a person, he's betting on. Would love to see Murray get his career back on track here and be that legit #1 of old. Between losing his father and Injuries, he's undoubtedly had some rough years in the past few. I'll say I thought we would have gotten a better sweetner, and/or more retention....but as far as Murray the goaltender goes, I'm excited to watch him play, and I'll hold negative judgement on the deal until all the facts are in.
Welcome to TO Matt, hope you're what we've been needing.

what are these 'future considerations'? are we dumping someone like holl to get even more cap space? that would explain only 25% retained for murray.

Wow, this thread.

Hi leaf fans, was wondering if stolarz made sense for a back up plan for MM…. Dostal is ready to jump in…. And seems highly unlikely we move gibson.

Stolarz is on last year of his contract, has put up solid numbers and his contract is essentially nothing

Sure. How many firsts would you like? 4? 5? Hurry now while Dubas still has a job.

It is not about Murray being back to his Cup Winning Self or just be okay....it is about the value that Dubas got for this trade. A 3rd and a 7th is complete crap and absolutely nothing in terms of trade value.
Somehow, Sens needs to actually thanks Murray for nixing his trade to the Sabres as this deal is actually better for the Sens.

What I dun understand is why do we actually get less than what Buffalo would have gotten. And can't we at least get a third team involved to eat up some of the salary?

Then Dubas apologists will claim how brilliant the move was, like the Ritchie and Mrazek trades.

The context is very different though - with Mrazek, it was Dubas acknowledging he made a mistake and rectifying it.

If in 12 months, Dubas has to do the same with Murray, it's Dubas acknowledging that he doesn't learn from his mistakes.

Another Mrazak! it'll be another first round exit next season or not even make the playoffs. Toronto greyhounds

Jon Elkin is part of the management (Goaltender Evaluation) and he's also coached Murray in the past.

Not saying this is a good trade or anything but its extremely clear they think his upside is still great and they have someone internally whos very familiar with him.
Yeah, i read your post on Elkin earlier. Havent heard that name since the Raycroft days, he also coached a friend who was a big fan/supporter.

I didn't. If you are not kyle's immediate family or connected to him and you defend this deal then you lose all credibility. Even if murray becomes good, this deal f***ing is horrific.

End of the day Morgs has been defending dubas (and you as well to be fair) for everything. Call a spade a f***ing spade. This deal is ass. Period.
Okay sure but if people criticize even his good deals, does the mean they are his worst enemy.
Also @Morgs didn't defend the deal. He said potential of Murray but also this trade isn't good.

Alright, I'm on the fire Dubas train now. I don't get this move at all.

I advocated keeping Dubas in debates because I thought he would be the best steady hand, run it back and see what you've got GM, to avoid damage to the franchise before the Matthews re-signing. How could he have turned this program into his own personal DraftKings?
