A 3rd a 7th vs like 2 million in cap space minimumWhy not let Ottawa buy him out and get him for cheap as a UFA?
Was a 3rd and 7th worth it? Probably not
Then Dubas apologists will claim how brilliant the move was, like the Ritchie and Mrazek trades. This time next year:
Toronto trades their 1st round pick and Matt Murray to Arizona for a 4th round pick and a 7th round pick.
If this trade blows up in his face it won't be Dubas' problem to clean up.I look forward to the acceptably meh trade that Dubas makes to clean up the mess that this trade creates after another first round exit.
That made me feel better, actually.Husso 4.75
Murray 4.68

Pretty sure the Sabres deal was also 25%, and they were giving back a 1st in the teens as well.Reminder: Ottawa were willing to move their 7th overall pick last Friday, to move Murray at 50% retained to Buffalo.
To only get 25% retained, and only a 3rd, four days later, is so disappointing.
To hitch your wagon in the single most important season in recent memory, to a broken, busted, out of sorts Murray is the sort of BOOM or BUST move that costs you a job.
At 50% retained, you could have grabbed a tandem goalie and used the extra space to upgrade the team.
Murray at 4.7M puts the squeeze on the cap again.
Father is dancing around the house. He says by next spring people will be calling this an outright steal of the century by Dubas!!

Not quite! This better be 50% with Pinto coming back.
If you go by the various charts the drop from 7th to 16th is worth about 35-40 depending on the chart. An early third plus plus an early 7th is fairly close to that value so it's not nearly as bad as you think from that perspective anyway.
I didn't. If you are not kyle's immediate family or connected to him and you defend this deal then you lose all credibility. Even if murray becomes good, this deal f***ing is horrific.
End of the day Morgs has been defending dubas (and you as well to be fair) for everything. Call a spade a f***ing spade. This deal is ass. Period.
Clearly he believes Murray can be a quality tender with a lot of games ... which is a damn scary thought.
I hate this.
