Reminder: Ottawa were willing to move their 7th overall pick last Friday, to move Murray at 50% retained to Buffalo.

To only get 25% retained, and only a 3rd, four days later, is so disappointing.

To hitch your wagon in the single most important season in recent memory, to a broken, busted, out of sorts Murray is the sort of BOOM or BUST move that costs you a job.

Pretty sure the Sabres deal was also 25%, and they were giving back a 1st in the teens as well.

At 50% retained, you could have grabbed a tandem goalie and used the extra space to upgrade the team.

Murray at 4.7M puts the squeeze on the cap again.

Exactly. Now there's little cap space for a tandem. This is TOR's starter for the 22-23 season.

He blew it.

Oh boy. I'm not sure what to say here. At 50% retained I could get it. There's decent value there and a chance that he does really put it together. But only 25% and that's the best they could get? Dubas couldn't even get a second round pick?

Again, Murray could come through. But regardless it's just bad value. Should have been able to get a better retention on the contract than that. At this point it really would have been better to just open the doors for Campbell. Not saving much money by taking on Murray here.

I was ready to give Dubas a shot with this one. There was logic to it. But it had to be a good trade and it just isn't.

As a Sens fan that loves to see Leafs land implode, in all seriousness when Murray is on his game and healthy, he is absolutely an elite goalie and worth every penny of that 6m+ contract.

Only issue is his confidence is real shaky and he's had concussion issues for the past year so there is some risk but this can legitimately be a good deal for you guys

Murray might be their missing piece.

Two-time back-to-back Stanley Cup champion and has been the starter to a Cup. His regular-season stats are whatever but his playoff stats show he's a reliable campaigner and that's exactly what the Leafs need. He's gone the distance before and knows what it takes. If the team doesn't fall apart in front of him, they're going to go deep. Strengthen the blueline at this point and see where the team takes you.

Their GM is betting heavy on this because I think this is the end of the road for him if it fails and I'm pretty optimistic about the Leafs chances with Murray.

If you go by the various charts the drop from 7th to 16th is worth about 35-40 depending on the chart. An early third plus plus an early 7th is fairly close to that value so it's not nearly as bad as you think from that perspective anyway.

Yeah it's not even that for me.

It's that you have a cap-strapped team in need of two solid goalies and quality depth, and he squanders that on an injury prone goalie who hasn't had a good season in like 5 years.

I didn't. If you are not kyle's immediate family or connected to him and you defend this deal then you lose all credibility. Even if murray becomes good, this deal f***ing is horrific.

End of the day Morgs has been defending dubas (and you as well to be fair) for everything. Call a spade a f***ing spade. This deal is ass. Period.

You talk about having no credibility and then say something like, "If the player we gave nothing up for becomes good this deal is horrific.". You couldn't be less self aware if you tried.

I don't think Murray is the fix and would prefer we didn't have him, but the deal is fine since we gave up nothing. Murray can be flipped for a back alley handy and we are no worse off.
