Confirmed with Link: [TOR/OTT] Matt Murray (25% retention), a 3rd in 2023 and a 7th in 2024 for Future Considerations.

Like FFS AZ moved up in the draft, got a 2nd and a 3rd for moving Kassian's dead cap and that was for only 3.2M and less real money. Sure, Murray isn't as bad as Kassian, but he's also one more hit to the head from not playing another game.

So now 6 million left to get a back up goalie and a new 4th line? Should be easy.
I hope everyone is ready for a Clifford Simmonds 4th line again

Yeah it's worse considering the real dollars and how cheap Ottawa is.

And I feel like we were the only ones interested. Should have done better.
 
This is garbage. Give up our 1st to get cap space, bring back Matt Murray at only 25% retention, and now is a higher cap hit than Mrazek and only get a 3rd and 7th as compensation. Dubas got fleeced and this is just embarassing that Murray is our answer in goal. It's only July and I'm already saying 'F next year'. Were not going anywhere with this goaltending situation. Embarrassing.

Why would a GM make a trade that has a swing of a total flame out for the franchise and personally the loss of his job, when he could have just run it back with an unspectacular devil-you-know? Just horrendous risk assessment and completely gambling. It's like he wants to make big ego plays.

Jon Elkin is part of the management (Goaltender Evaluation) and he's also coached Murray in the past.

Not saying this is a good trade or anything but its extremely clear they think his upside is still great and they have someone internally whos very familiar with him.

There's tons of options for cheap 4 the lines. If we bring those guys back it's by choice not necessity.
