This just boggles the mind. Murray can win the Vezina next year and it still doesn't make this trade, today, on pure value, any better.

We know Ottawa dealt him to buffalo with the 7th for the 16th. The value jump in that is surely worth at least a late first. So how do you, as a GM, approach this deal, knowing that Ottawa is willing to give up about a 1st, and then settle for a 3rd.

Boggles the mind.

To be fair, the 2023 draft is much stronger than the 2022. But not walking out from this deal with 50% retention or even a 2nd is inexcusable

So I just saw that Murray even at 25% retained is still about 1M more expensive than Mrazek??!?! Whhhhhhaaaaattt?

He was getting paid 6M wow

Goaltending decisions can royally f*** over GMs. It killed JFJ when he went from Raycroft to Toskala. Nonis went down in part because he wasted assets on Bernier who was at best a marginal upgrade on Reimer while not addressing the defence. This is a hell of a gamble by Dubas.
JFJ slow-dug his own grave when he acquired Raycroft in the first place at the cost of one of the best goaltending prospects on the planet.

Unless this is part of some combo deal to flip Murray somewhere else I kinda think this deal sucks.

Dubas' Mrazek to Murray bad goalie shuffle over the past 12 months is probably not going to work out for Toronto in the end. A lot of damage done in a short amount of time.
We will have to see how it plays out.
I hope it works but if not, I hope this is the end.

This is a near fireable offense.

This GM almost never wins trades outright and had complete leverage over Ottawa. Not only is Murray unanimously agreed to be a horrible trade target (before the inevitable rationalizing happens), but it is a grossly underwhelming return with only slight retention.

Pitiful.

Dubas just doubles down on what he thinks his right no matter what. This move may end his leafs career. You gotta have some balls to take this risk. But even if he got 50% from Sens and Murray sucked, Dubas would get the same treatment as a total loser. So he made the deal anyway.

Only time will tell. They need a real back up now though, this cant be it with Woll/kal
