As the title states:

TORONTO:
M.Sergechev
D.Desharnais

Reasoning:
Toronto prospect pool lacking strength on defence
Toronto centre depth significant
Kadri not suited to 3rd line role

MONTREAL:
N.Kadri

Reasoning:
Kadri 2C that can slot behind gally
Prime aligns with current assets
DD out
Childhood Habs fan, Lebanese

Uhh... Sure? I'd do it. I don't think it's the right time for it though, given we just gave Kadri a nice extension.

It would look bad on management.

 So why would a habs fan ever propose this?

Is he/she really ?

Ewwwwww

No offense, but I think trading Kadri for Sergachev (and 1 year of a professional nain-de-jardin) would look pretty good for the management

-Last year of DD's contract so there's no urgency to dump his salary anymore.
-I dont see Kadri as an upgrade on Plekanec, to be quite honest I think hes better overall player but Im sure many would argue that Kadri is.
-Sergachev would probably be the only untouchable prospect that we have.

Downgrade the trade, and think of Juulsen?

Same answer, Kadri is not an upgrade on our current #2C, the cap dump is pointless considering its his last year of contract and we add Sergachev or Juulsen? Makes no sense. I dont think Habs would have any interest in Kadri to be honest.

Looks bad on management in terms of future contract negotiations with other players - those contracts are supposed to be negotiated in good faith (ie. the intent of keeping that player for the term negotiated). A couple/few years into the deal I think all players understand the business and that circumstances change in unforeseen ways, but within 4-5 months of signing a 6 year commitment without much hockey being played during that time looks like deals negotiated with the leafs can't be trusted

That being said, I'd trade Kadri for Sergachev and understand why Habs fans wouldn't

The player should know that he can be traded if his contract doesn't include a no-movement clause.

Toronto Center depth is Kadri, Matthews, Bozak. Why on earth would you think they would be comfortable dumping Kadri right now? Who is going to shelter Matthews then in his rookie season? Also, I see no reason for Montreal to trade away Sergachev... they just drafted him.

Nylander is a natural C playing wing in his rookie year. Gotta include him on the depth chart as that's where he'll mostly be playing in the future according to Babcock:

Matthews
Nylander
Kadri
Bozak

Embarrassing proposal. No need for Kadri and Sergy is simply not available.

Still doesn't address my point. Why make this move today? As you said, Nylander isn't being groomed as a center in the NHL yet and that would leave Matthews to develop against the best centers in the league. I'm not saying he wouldn't be up for it, but throwing your future star player into the deep end and telling him to sink or swim from day 1 could either make or break a player. Not to mention the media pressure that would be put on him to perform, even though it's simply not realistic. Eichel had RoR last year to take the tougher match ups, McDavid had RNH when they were healthy. Matthews can benefit from letting Kadri take some heat off him in his rookie season.

Fair enough, I guess I didn't see it that way. I tend to only see the value of the trade itself and not the moral or human aspect attached to it. But again I am no GM
