-Sergachev would probably be the only untouchable prospect that we have.

Sergachev is not an untouchable prospect.

Connor McDavid was an untouchable prospect. Sergachev was drafted 9th overall just a few short months ago.

Toronto Center depth is Kadri, Matthews, Bozak. Why on earth would you think they would be comfortable dumping Kadri right now? Who is going to shelter Matthews then in his rookie season? Also, I see no reason for Montreal to trade away Sergachev... they just drafted him.

Matthews
Kadri
Bozak
Nylander
Holland
Laich
Gauthier
--In no particular order

The point is to deal futures to a rebuilding team and to deal prime to a playoff team

Exactly

if people don't consider Nylander untouchable then Serg sure isn't.

I believe we are now discussing degrees of untouchable... So If I am catching the gist I could conclude that Kadri is genearally way more touchable than Sergachev would you not?

Please note that I have no personal desire to touch either one of them

The Habs just traded a puck moving elite D for a slower, older, but meaner D. They did it for all sort of reasons some of them ridiculous. But mainly it because they think Sergachev is their next elite puck moving D. Markov is not even on his last legs anymore (That was two or three years ago). I doubt they move a D for a while least of all for a forward. At least nothing top 4 if you like a slightly overpriced Emelin you can have him really cheap...

Don't see a fit.

First the Leafs are not in need of LHD at the moment, as good as Sergachev is, he's not really needed.

Secondly, sending Kadri to Montreal helps them too much and creates a huge hole for veteran NHL experience on the Leafs which is already sparse as it is. Montreal needs to win now so an 18 year old D man is not going to help them much which I'm sure Lou is well aware of, but Kadri would greatly improve their team without any improvement coming to the Leafs for the next couple of seasons.

I can't see why the Leafs would do this trade.

I like Kadri, but not at the expense of Serge. DD only has 1 year left and he's still a good 3rd liner, we can live with him for 1+ season.

If we can't get Kadri for other future pieces then so be it.. but we're obviously not moving Sergachev.

As the title states:

TORONTO:
M.Sergechev
D.Desharnais

Reasoning:
Toronto prospect pool lacking strength on defence
Toronto centre depth significant
Kadri not suited to 3rd line role

MONTREAL:
N.Kadri

Reasoning:
Kadri 2C that can slot behind gally
Prime aligns with current assets
DD out
Childhood Habs fan, Lebanese

Not a chance the Habs would even consider this.

I would guess that Sergachev is already a top 5 untouchable in the entire Habs organization.

The trade proposed is absolute insanity.

Sergachev is going to win the Norris within 6-7 years.
He is complete package in a way that no Leaf dman is.

Kadri? I wouldn't do it if they were sending Marner.

Holy mother of hype. Calm your expectations, if he was a a lock for Norris he wouldn't have gone 9th.

Still doesn't address my point. Why make this move today? As you said, Nylander isn't being groomed as a center in the NHL yet and that would leave Matthews to develop against the best centers in the league. I'm not saying he wouldn't be up for it, but throwing your future star player into the deep end and telling him to sink or swim from day 1 could either make or break a player. Not to mention the media pressure that would be put on him to perform, even though it's simply not realistic. Eichel had RoR last year to take the tougher match ups, McDavid had RNH when they were healthy. Matthews can benefit from letting Kadri take some heat off him in his rookie season.

Agreed 100%, trading kadri who is our top defensive center and forcing nylander/Matthews to be put in that role in their rookie seasons would be idiotic. Especially considering kadri just got reupped for 6 years

Wait...
Kadri is sent away because he isn't a 3rd liner.
Is sent to Montreal so they could ... upgrade on 3rd line. At the cost of Sergachev. All the while somewhat hampering their ability to sign Galchenyuk and Beaulieu and possibly Radulov this summer.

(Not saying Kadri's contract is bad, not a minute)
