Kyle Dubas' first mistake in evaluation. A poor signing that will hopefully crush the Leafs down the line. Excellent, most excellent... :yo:

A 2.5m is gonna crush us down the line?

Are ppl like farcely saying stupid things and I'm just missing the joke??or?

TIL that $2.5M (or 3.4% of the salary cap) is a huge massive contract for a team nowhere really near the salary cap

First season was great for sure, after that he was injured for like 30 games and had a rough year. The 3rd year he was just awful and done.

Meh, Leafs won't be competitive for another few years at least. Ongoing process, and Martin brings a lot of sandpaper in a bottom 6 role for the time being.

Don't think they'll be making these sort of moves when Dubas takes over, whenever that happens.

And that 2.5 is going to stop the Leafs from winning the cup the next four years?

Explain to me how this hinders the leafs?

Leafs only have 50 million in cap space in 2 years. How will they sign the young kids???!!!

Love it as a leafs fan.

No way were we running a 4th line that was 2/3rds rookies.

If we hadn't signed Martin and Marner or Nylander gets a dirty hit, the same posters complaining now. Would be complaining later about not signing someone to protect them.

By the time the leafs have to re-sign anyone of consequence, his deal will be up. Add in the fact that there are alot of skilled, and possibly soft, players on the roster, it's a good add. Can you disagree with it? Ofcourse, but I don't see a scenario where this contract alone hurts them in any facet.

Leafs could sign Gretzky in his prime, and HF would **** all over it. Such is the way of the road..

This is gonna handcuff us when we have to pay Matthews, Marner and Nylander down the line.

Leafs management Leafing again...Kessel/Phaneuf contracts 2.0

:shakehead

We have about 20 million committed to players after 2 more seasons. Give it a rest.

Honestly, I stay off these boards and don't comment because of moronic posters like you.

Leafs have had a solid summer. Signing a 27-year-old very good hitter and grinder for $2.5 per for four years to add to our INCREDIBLY soft lineup is not a bad move at all.

Christ sake we get Auston Matthews. Trade and sign for a very solid, young goaltender and this move puts the management on the hot seat. Give it a rest.

I can tell you're butt hurt over not getting Stamkos but come on man, relax.

People said the same thing when I pointed this out when we signed Robidas but it's ok to make the same mistake.

I love you blind Leaf fans that say 'dahhhhh Clarkson had 30 goals' 'dah Robidas is RHD' 'dah it's just 2.5 million'

Yet you're the same people that say 10 million for Stamkos is too much, you don't go over 8....

The Leafs just signed 10 million of dead cap space.

A garbage contract is a garbage contract.

Except, that's not the case. It's more you paid 250 for something you didn't have to buy, but your "analogy" is quite flawed as it is.

And your analogy is simply incorrect.

Did people really think the Leafs would play a bunch of rookies all the way down to the 4th line? Experience is an asset in a locker-room.

Also, there is nobody to keep other teams accountable for instigating Toronto's young talent.

Matt Martin definitely is a useful commodity to Toronto and Shanny, Lou and Dubas agreeing to signing him is evidence of that. Torgo's opinion notwithstanding

Term is ok but a little high on the $$$. But it's the new NHL most everyone signed on 7/1 is overpaid. And I thought the NHL GM's were bad till I seen the crazy money NBA free agents are getting today.

Slight overpay and at least 1 year too long but can live with it. Martin brings a missing element to the team.

And how are those contracts handcuffing us these days? lol

Matt Martin is not Robidad either btw.
