It's not a great value deal but it's definitely not the worst deal we've all seen today.

As far as fighting goes he's an animal. He's never lost/ got beat up in a fight. He's had some draws maybe but never has he got his ass kicked. He's a tough SOB and a great teammate. Also, his girlfriend is insanely hot. She's Boomer Eisaisons daughter.

I don't mind Martin. It's a contract that won't hurt us, but also a player who can help protect the kids. He's a borderline 3rd liner, and if you put him with Komarov, that would be a nightmare for a lot of teams.

A lot of people in this thread have low IQs. He's 27, we're not contending, have plenty of cap room, and at 4 years/2.5 it's an easily moveable contract in 2-3 years if need be.

meh paid a little extra to get the guy they wanted.. not like they need that extra little bit of space in these 4 years.

I like the edge he brings to the game. Guys like him, Komarov, Kadri, Soshnikov get under your skin and make them a tough team to play.

Expensive for what he brings but I don't mind it. Was waiting for Toronto to do something. Islanders are the biggest losers today I think.

Love this signing! Martin is going to be a great fit on our team. Under 3 mil is a steal for what he brings imo.

Perfect for sticking up for our young guys

This is gonna handcuff us when we have to pay Matthews, Marner and Nylander down the line.

Leafs management Leafing again...Kessel/Phaneuf contracts 2.0

This will in no way effect Toronto's cap when dealing with those 3. Marner and Nylander probably going to get bridge deals, barring a major breakout from one of them (Wouldn't doubt it from Nylander, so good).

They're not contending for the playoffs. It's a bad contract if they are. Having someone like Martin around when rebuilding for younger players to look up to for leadership maybe isn't such a bad idea...

Interesting view.

One good shot and a bunch of helmet blows does not equal beating up. That would be a draw or slight edge to White in most peoples books.

We didn't sign him to be a scraper, even though he will drop them when needed. He is here to throw a ton of hit, build energy and pot a few goals.

That was the one good punch he got nailed with in like 5 years. WTG

I love the Leaf fans that said you can't give Stamkos 10 million per, you can't overpay him by 2 million a year....

This is the garbage you get otherwise, overpaying 4th liners, this summer has sucked, Andersen was handed too much term, every draft pick not named Matthews was brutal and Matt Martin is Colton Orr 2.0.

The honeymoon is ending with this management.

Go cheer for some other team then? :shakehead

Wut?

They'll be RFAs, signing for 3-5 mil/season. Where's the handcuffing when the cap goes up?

I swear people on these boards don't think sometimes.

Lmao the reactions in this thread. I will gladly pay Martin 2.5 mill for 4 years if it means avoid the real hiccups today.

I think that's the plan, bringing so many new players and rookies can be a bit dangerous. They'll bring in a guy who can stick up for them and play competent hockey on the 4th line.

Despite the thread instantly blowing up, this signing shouldn't be a big deal.
