This is not a good contract. It's also far from the worst deal today and won't cripple the Leafs. Now Kris Russell on the other hand...

Ryan White beat this stiff up last year.

Interesting view.

One good shot and a bunch of helmet blows does not equal beating up. That would be a draw or slight edge to White in most peoples books.

We didn't sign him to be a scraper, even though he will drop them when needed. He is here to throw a ton of hit, build energy and pot a few goals.

this guy is a hits machine, and so what if its four years at 2.5. that is not going to handcuff us.
him and komarov are going to help create space on two different lines and protect marner, and matthews when need be

This is actually a perfect signing for Toronto. It's a year too long but the price is fine; everyone knew Martin would get overlaid. At least this isn't drastic. But he's a great fit for Toronto. He brings it and he adds toughness to the fourth line that can actually play hockey. I like what Toronto is doing. They need a dman.

Wonder if that was a part of the contract :naughty:

Don Cherry approves.

Much like Colton Orr was the sole reason why Toronto made the playoffs...only to lose

I love it as a leafs fan. He was rumoured to be asking a lot more he brings a lot of jam and energy every game for his team I'm excited to see him play. I thought for sure he was going to get a Cizikas type deal the fact that he didn't is a major bonus

That's a pretty clear W for White, especially considering he gave up 3"+ and 25lbs. White is a low-end middleweight.

I dont love the contract but its nothing to freak out about.
He will be overpaid but we have capspace and not much to spend it on right now.

Yeah better bring back Colton Orr too. Lets get Luke Schenn on the blue line while we're at it. This way of thinking is so outdated. Do his extra couple of hits a game really make him that much better than Leivo or Leipsic?

Orr can't play, Martin can, the two aren't the same. As for Leivo I like him but it's clear his chance to be a full time NHL player at least for the Leafs has past that could have been clear the moment they got Kerby Rychel.

Leipsic I am also a fan of but he still needs another year.

Every team needs SOME toughness

I love the Leaf fans that said you can't give Stamkos 10 million per, you can't overpay him by 2 million a year....

This is the garbage you get otherwise, overpaying 4th liners, this summer has sucked, Andersen was handed too much term, every draft pick not named Matthews was brutal and Matt Martin is Colton Orr 2.0.

The honeymoon is ending with this management.

Colton Orr 2.0 ?
You obviously have never seen M M play.
Orr had 20 career points , Martin had 10 goals last season .
Martin rarely takes a bad penalty even though he walks the edge every shift.
Instant fan favorite. By the end of October there will as many Martin sweaters walking around your arena as any player not named Matthews. Great signing for the Leafs!!!!!!
You don't write the checks so don't worry about the money. Enjoy the player
