A lot of people in this thread have low IQs. He's 27, we're not contending, have plenty of cap room, and at 4 years/2.5 it's an easily moveable contract in 2-3 years if need be.

He's already 27? He hits like crazy. Probably going to be beat and run down at the end of next year.

I have no idea why people would be mad over the term when he is only 27 and very effective in his role. Most players getting signed right now are 30 or older and getting signed for longer deals. Effective 4th line guys are still important on good teams plus he adds a solid veteran to a really young team. Plus everyone saying it will handcuff the leafs cap down the road needs to give their head a shake. Michalek, laich, bernier, greening, robidas all come off the books after this season they will have more then enough cap space going forward.

This is a lot of money for a low producing guy. I think this is about 1 million too much

Are you even serious? Nobody cares about salary, they care about cap. There's a limit to how much you can spend.

And that 2.5 is going to stop the Leafs from winning the cup the next four years?

Explain to me how this hinders the leafs?

People sound clueless about Martin in this thread. He can play hockey. He isn't in the Colton Orr or even Derek Dorsett tier. He's good. I also think he leads the league in hits most years, or close to it. He's tough as nails, absolutely brings it, great team guy, can fight and will happily do so to stand up for his teammates or send a message. He's a good hockey player though. He's a little overpaid but it's July 1 and everyone was expecting him to get overpaid. If this was a 3 year deal it would be perfect. It's still pretty damn good.

I say all of this as a Rangers fan. This is my impression of seeing plenty of Martin on the Islanders and being a fan of their biggest rival.

As far as fighting goes he's an animal. He's never lost/ got beat up in a fight. He's had some draws maybe but never has he got his ass kicked. He's a tough SOB and a great teammate. Also, his girlfriend is insanely hot. She's Boomer Eisaisons daughter.

Oh yes she definitely is.

Our superstar, Matt Martin, has come home.

Lots of people on here just proving how they lack so much IQ.... Martin is bodyguard for our youth!!! He can also play a very good 4th line role who can hit and play good defence! He is also a very good locker room! but of course some of u here don't know jack **** but just like to talk nonsense...

Prust was huge for the Habs his first 2 seasons

First season was great for sure, after that in the 2nd year he was injured for like 30 games and had a very rough year. The 3rd year he was just awful and done, a shadow of his former self, sad to see because habs nation loved him.
