People said the same thing when I pointed this out when we signed Robidas but it's ok to make the same mistake.

I love you blind Leaf fans that say 'dahhhhh Clarkson had 30 goals' 'dah Robidas is RHD' 'dah it's just 2.5 million'

Yet you're the same people that say 10 million for Stamkos is too much, you don't go over 8....

The Leafs just signed 10 million of dead cap space.

A garbage contract is a garbage contract.

But Martin isn't dead space?...

Seriously, calm down man. You'll blow something.

Ya this seems like a bit of an overpayment but as most have said this is not going to hurt us much. Would have preferred 3x2 but the sounds of it this could be our Komarov 2.0. By then end of last year most were stating he was our most in demand asset.

Not only does he it the most in the NHL but his hits are 99% clean. When There is a questionable hit it's usually a freak occurrence. He's not a dirty player by any means.

I like it. Who cares if they pay too much when it's 2.5 million... basically pocket change. Martin, Komarov types will be crucial for Leafs as they want Nylander/Marner and to lesser extent, Matthews, to have defensive support early on. Komarov can anchor a strong 3rd line and Martin can do the same for the 4th.

Yikes. Martin is no Robidas, 37 or whatever coming off two broken legs. Or Clarkson, with all the hype and the 7 year deal. All this over a $2.5M cap hit.

And where is Clarkson today, smart guy? How is Robidas affecting Toronto's cap-situation?

That's some narrative you built in your own head that says people don't mind overpaying for Martin but not Stamkos but all the power to you.

Also, even if it were dead, it's 10M of dead salary and 2.5M of dead cap-space.

I love the Leaf fans that said you can't give Stamkos 10 million per, you can't overpay him by 2 million a year....

This is the garbage you get otherwise, overpaying 4th liners, this summer has sucked, Andersen was handed too much term, every draft pick not named Matthews was brutal and Matt Martin is Colton Orr 2.0.

The honeymoon is ending with this management.

No actually this off season has been fantastic so far.

IN
Mathews
Andersen
Rychel
Martin

OUT
Cowen
Harrington

So they got a future franchise C, a legitimate #1 goalie, a potential top. 9 forward in Rychel and one of the NHL best 4th liners in Martin and all they lost was Jared Cowen and Scott Harrington

That's a great off season do far.

Overpaid by like $500K, and we have loads of cap space with no 'huge' deals looming in the next 3 years. I'm fine with it. Need a guy like that in the locker room and on the ice, protects our young guys.

Last time people were up in arms about the Leafs overpaying for a 'grinder' was the Komarov deal, and I think every Leafs fan in the world loves it now. I'm not too worried.

Love it as a leafs fan.

No way were we running a 4th line that was 2/3rds rookies.

If we hadn't signed Martin and Marner or Nylander gets a dirty hit, the same posters complaining now. Would be complaining later about not signing someone to protect them.

Yep, Albany took all kinds of liberties with the Marlies' young stars in the AHL playoffs.

You need these kinds of players.

Don't get me wrong, i always really liked guys like orr or tucker because they are fun to watch. Plus put him on the komarov line and just laugh how they mess up the opposing team but 4 years is about 2 years too much

Holy crap. I'm trying to be congratulatory towards Leafs fans for s solid signing that improved their team and all I see are immature posters losing their minds over a 2.5M contract. It's 2016-17. 2.5M is a drop in the bucket. In two years it will be even less % of the cap. Leafs fans either need to chill out or raise the minimum posting age among their fans.

This feels like 1 year too long for the term, but nothing really good or bad- just feels like sort of just an average deal.

Btw for the guy who said that this was a Dubas error Martin has really good shot suppression stats though and starts 60% in the defensive zone. Still not a good deal, not a bad deal, just average.

Kadri, Komarov, Soshnikov, Martin pissing off so many teams next year :D

I like this move.......IF this is it for July 1st.

I don't want to address our D this year in UFA because we will overpay for nothing that special.

This add is perfectly fine if we're done for the day and will probably be a positive addition the next year at least, hopefully most of the contract, but easily moved or removed contract it's tiny money with all the guys on ELC's etc, contracts expiring in the next few years of guys not even playing.

"omg they overpaid .5m on July 1st, for a contract that's 1 or 2 years too long.. maybe..."
Are you people ****ing ********? Seriously. Not even much of an overpayment. What the **** do you expect on July 1st? Is everyone in here new to the NHL?

I'll take this signing any day of the week. With Leo on the 3rd and Matt on the 4th, no one is going to be happy playing against our bottom 6.
