that we keep talking about it?Ranging into "indefensible" territory now.

Kyle Dubas:
Signed Nylander late, somewhat screwed up
Signed Auston Matthews in the middle, screwed up
Signed Mitch Marner early, a complete disaster

but according to many of my fellow Leaf fans Dubas is the greatest GM in the history of the gameKyle Dubas:

Except Tavares was offered more by other teams.I'd say he over paid Willie by abour 2-300k
He drastically overpaid Matthews considering the term by about 2 mil
He drastically over paid Marner by about 1.5 mil.
Considering Stamkos stayed in Tampa for 9.5, that's an over pay on Tavares by about 1.5 mil as well.
1.5 + .3 + 2 + 1.5 = 5.3 mil.
Considering the cap isn't going up anytime soon. Our window is this year and after that to keep a piece we will need to lose a pieces.
so says every other ufa including Stamkos and ClarksonExcept Tavares was offered more by other teams.

My point is that saying he overpaid is pretty silly given that he paid less than Tavares was offered elsewhere. So?
I'm sure Stammer was as well.

Tavares came here because he wants to win. He left NYI because he wants to win. It's not like Tavares also left Tampa. You don't have a point if his comparable decided to stay and sign for less ignoring all other offers.
he wants to win. Tavares wants to get paid.

You sound fun.If he wants to win he would have signed for something more reasonable than 11, knowing there is a damn salary cap.
What was his mantra? He didn't want to add through subtraction? Ya. That's not gonna happen now. He clearly set a locker room standard of 11.. This clearly impacted Matthews, Marner and Nylander. And now to keep a piece we will need to lose a piece.
I'm looking at Rielly, Andersen and the like.
So addition by subtraction.
This year is our window. Enjoy!
Honestly, I think the Nylander contract is fine and the Matthews contract is worse than the Marner contract.
You sound fun.
You realize all of the TB contracts are cheaper because they have no state tax. The leafs are the highest taxed team in the league. There is a tax calculator on Cap Friendly you can play with.I'd say he over paid Willie by abour 2-300k

I see us having a core of Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares signed for at least five more seasons (with a supporting cast up front also signed long term), and that to me is among the best in the league. I agree with your point about Rielly and Andersen but to be honest none of us expected Dubas to go to out and acquire pieces like Muzzin and Barrie while also signing the three kids long term, so I am fine to wait for the next few years before whining on the internet and acting like the world is ending. Your whole schtick with comments like "enjoy!" and "you are struggling" as if you come from the future and know better than anyone is just lame.you sound like you are struggling to paint a bright picture on to what has actually happened in the last few years, contract wise.
This will honestly all play out much more clearly and harder for you to paint a happy picture when you see Toronto UFA's leave while Tampa's and the like stay.
Just let it all play out as it will.
how come the rest of the non state tax teams don't get there players to also sign for discounts ?You realize all of the TB contracts are cheaper because they have no state tax. The leafs are the highest taxed team in the league. There is a tax calculator on Cap Friendly you can play with.
Too Bad he's probably going to have to get traded to fill out the defence next yearThe Nylander contract is going to end up looking like a bargain soon.
That issue is negligible when you take into account the signing bonuses paid out by Toronto and they are paid in American dollarsYou realize all of the TB contracts are cheaper because they have no state tax.
