That's why I am a bit surprised he bridged Carlo and McAvoy. Sweeney's best moves were locking up his forward core on long term deals which have all aged well. I was expecting him to do the same with McAvoy in particular - overpay him for a year or two, but ensure his longevity with the club. His 3 year deal was alright, and may be team friendly later, but it still leaves the door open in 3 years when Charlie gets some RFA rights.

Makes me wonder if he isn't trying/hoping to move Backes and bridging those two would allow him to eat part of the Backes contract and still have room to add another player. Then once the Backes deal is done, he can split that money between those two on longer term deals.

I dont get this, all ever here leafs , leafs, i hate the leafs everyone talks about the Toronto Maple leafs but its not just leaf fan talking about it, its fans of other, Marner signing is on the 3rd thread page 18+ and no end in sight. Not because leaf fans won't stop talking about it but other fans keep talking about it
Jokes aside, it's not about Leafs, it's about the FA scene. Marner's contract details just happened to be an extra significant yardstick right now.

They’re out of control.

Completely unprovoked. They’re treated with the utmost respect, consideration and equality, and they just can’t help themselves.

Take your head out of the sand. Many of the main board threads resemble elementary school bully hierarchy. As a 52 year old man it’s surprising this has to be explained to you. Unfortunate, really.
Wow thanks for the lesson on how the main board threads work! Last time I checked this is a rumour hockey board where fans share their opinions about their team and other teams when it comes to signings, trades and sometimes other stuff. And Leafs fans never go to other teams threads and provoke that fanbase. I guess I'll have to remember not to post on Leaf threads! Good luck on your team's year!

It might be because their superstars aren't getting any younger so there's less reason to think beyond a 3 year timeline? That would seem to make some sense anyway.

That's sarcasm right? Hey well done, give yourself a pat on the back!

The truth is that Leaf fans do on occasion wander into other teams threads but if they talk any nonsense (sometimes even when they don't) they quickly get warned, banned etc. On the other hand, the number of posters crapping all of the Leafs in Leaf threads are far bigger and it seems like their posts can be as dumb as humanly possible and none of the mods say boo.

The cool thing about this double standard is that y'all are only making yourself look like children (shh, don't tell anyone, it's amusing).

Wow you can pick out sarcasm, you're smart person! Yes, it is too bad that none of the mods ever warn or ban non-Leaf posters for what they post, it must really hurt to be picked on all of the time. It's fun to come on the HF boards to read the posts that fans post regarding their team or other teams. But at the end of the day some fans just take sports and cheering for a particular team too seriously like they're part of the team. Enjoy the season, hopefully for your sake the Leafs win the cup this year or soon so you'll be able to brag about it. Have a good day.

That's standard in NA pro sports. What's strange is this phenomenon of rooting AGAINST certain teams too seriously. That is your right though (apparently) in the place so carry on.

And you have yourself a good day too. :)

Yes lots of fans root against certain teams too seriously, probably due to the dislike of certain teams' fanbases, but that's also the standard in NA pro sports, look at baseball, football and basketball besides hockey.

Really?Fans root against certain teams? I really didn't know that. How can anyone dislike a teams fan-base?

I feel like not many people know this, but the leafs' assistant gm, Brandon Pridham help create the cba and salary cap. He was hired as a "cap contultant". They literally have the salary cap creator hired as a cap consultant.

And the majority of posters on this site talk like they're top **** as if they can see years down the leafs' timeline.

The leafs have their entire team signed for this season. Lets enjoy watching hockey as hockey fans for a year and worry about the cap next offseason. Oh wait, we dont have to, as we have the guy who literally created the cap working for us. Awesome! glg

Lol, don’t think a cap guru is required to explain the term “up against the cap”, cause thats about the only cap info your brass will need to understand when trying to figure a way to fill all those pending ufa holes on your blue line.

Maybe your cap creator can create cheap affordable norris trophy dmen as well, he sounds so amazing.

It’s actually quite common and normal in sports. Often they’re called rivalries.
Yes, I know what a rivalry is, but in one, I , perhaps for one though I doubt it, don't root against the other team. I root for my team and I want them to win, but if that team is playing another I don't root for them to lose or hate their fans.

Luckily the one d-man we have under contract next year already is in the Norris conversations. Not many teams have two, so we are probably OK. Thanks for your concern though.

Of course you root for your team to win, it doesn’t take a rivalry for you to root for your team. A rivalry is where there is a discord or animosity towards a different team

Yes, but not rooting against them or hating their fan-base.

How can Marner be overpayed? He had two beauty assists tonight. Sure one of them was for the other team but lets not nit pick.
You are one of the people who made that claim. The first assist was much more a thing of beauty than the pizza he served up to Scherwey. Nice one -timer though!

Is this your first experience of someone rooting against your team? Have you had the exhilaration of rooting against another team?

Perhaps you don't have the benefit I had: two equally competing teams in the same town. Back then you didn't have to go online a thousand miles to pick a fight. (Not really that many good scrums happened though. Kind of a shame, in retrospect.)

It's one thing to root against a rival team. The Leaf hatred on this forum is something else entirely, it seems like half the fans in any Leaf related thread are haters. If you think that's normal that's your right, enjoy.
