I keep laughing at the "we can, and we did" etc comments.

It's like they had only 25 million to sign the last 3 big contracts. OF COURSE THEY "COULD"

It is to what extent they "should have".

We can and we will/did sound slike a kid with daddys bank account who just overblew his wad on 3 guys lol. Of course they were going to sign them.

One. Acting like a kid with daddy’s bank account is other teams using Toronto’s money to keep the lights on.

Toronto is your daddy. They pay the bills. Montreal and the rangers are uncles that will keep you in line

The idea was that they couldn’t. They did. Can you even see the goalposts any more?

The salary cap is 81.5 million for all NHL teams yet the Maple Leafs are currently at $95 million used.

The Jets give up half their defense to sign Laine and Conner and have to sweat it out.
Wtf is this garbage.
I’m sure the Jets could have Horton and Clarkson for LTIR if they wanted?

Toronto is at 95 million in cap space used.

Does the salary cap not apply to the Maple Leafs. wtf

No it doesn’t. The Leafs applied for special consideration from the league and got it.

Yup. I'm kind of surprised nobody noticed until now, that Dubas guy is a friggin genius. :)

People dont know how LTIR is used. They seem to think if you get trade for a player and put them on LTIR you get free cap space.

People need to look at the equations and examples of:
LTIR FAQ - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

Yeah I was reading a few posts today and thinking are people really that dumb? Nah, can't be. But then again, the posts are right there for the whole world to read so ...

This place is amazing!

The biggest amazement to me is if what they believed was true wouldn't every cap strapped team be trading premium assets for LTIR players. If you could trade for Horton and get 5+ million in free cap space he would be worth a 1st round pick + a prospect. The best value contracts in the league would become guys not even playing the game lol

The preferential treatment that Toronto is getting in regards to being that much over over the salary cap is preposterous.

What preferential treatment? The rules on LTIR and how it affects the cap have been there from the beginning. The Leafs happen to be using them while others aren't. Their choice.

You may want to brush up on how LTIR actually works before you go about saying stuff that makes you look clueless...

Barrie is a 7-8. Muzzin a 5-6. So rookie D core or what? Marincin special? Yeah I don't like that inexperienced D core for a contender. Its pretty weak.

We won't sign Barrie and Muzzin.

As I said......we will use that 15 million to sign ONE of them.

Probably 8 million for Barrie, then maybe 3 million on Dermott, and 2 milion each on the last two(could be one UFA and Sandin...).

It's actually not that hard.

Follow along. :)

This year will be the toughest. Next year the cap will jump and we have all our main guys signed. It only will get easier as the seasons go by.

Preposterous indeed! Why doesn't the league have any rules in place to govern how much each team can spend on salaries? Why is Toronto the only team in the league that is allowed to use LTIR? It's such a great injustice!

...wait... are you being serious?
