I was a huge fan of Marchment. I watch a lot of the Marlies and he makes such a huge a impact physically as one of the better body checkers in the league and a great pest/middleweight. He was just heating up and I thought he could be a great bottom of the lineup player. So, I am sad to see him go. He is impossible to replace for the Marlies.

Looking into Malgin I can appreciate how much he has accomplished at his age. He's younger with a better track record. I imagine he is somewhere between Kerfoot and Petan in effectiveness. I guess we'll find out how much. He looks to hit a bit for his size and his takeaway/giveaway numbers are good. The Leafs needed to do something with the loss of Johnsson. The deal made more sense with how long he will be out. He's the more ready player for a drive.

Marchment is 2 years older than Malgin.

OK. Age (although not much of a difference between the two) versus potential? They knew what they had in Malgin, versus hoping for the potential they'd get with Marchment & that Marchment was more the style of player to address future needs that they were looking for.

I like the trade btw. Not sure if that counts, or if the crusade is more important. Not an earth shattering trade one way or another though of course.
