so Dubas acquires a more talented guy who can slide up and down the lineup if need be and people are complaining that he is 5'9. If he was 6'0 would anyone complain that we acquired a more skilled player who can play in the NHL vs a guy who probably won't be a long term NHLer. 7 cm is the difference between 5"9 and 6"0 7 cm people are freaking on about. Malgin probably plays as physical as the Goat who is 6"5

I know Malgin has slotted in at center, but he is lacking the ability to win draws. Maybe he can take draws from one side and split with Gauthier or something, but his career numbers are like 40%.

Malgin teammates with Matthews in Zurich...both about the same age. Very interesting.

Marner back with JT.

Nylander to 3C.

Malgin RH shot...plays RW....opening on Auston's right side.

Kerfoot deal imminent. E5

Still think it was Col Mustard in the drawing room with the candlestick.

Feels like we make a couple trades like this per year

Leivo for Carcone
Lindholm for Petan
Marchment for Malgin
etc

It's fine.

Marchment's skating seemed like an issue. I've liked Malgin for a while, but where he fits is TBD.

Maybe the Leafs are going to accommodate a Timashov move? He was on the trade block earlier, Malgin is a similar player , and Timashov may be of some interest to teams as a part of a larger deal. Or Malgin could be replacing Moore.

Maybe they'll package Timashov with Barrie ;)

Fine deal to me. Liked Malgin a few years back, kind of forgot about him.

The timeline looks like:
Acquire Clifford (pedigree, experience, grit)
Lose Moore (team experience, low-end grit)
Lose Marchment (AHLer)
Acquire Malgin (Has NHL experience, fits team's direction)

You had me convinced right up until "fits team's direction"

You can predict many poster's trade reaction simply by googling the height of the players involved

I think this is a fine deal, Malgin is at worst a proven 4th liner and Marchment probably won't amount to anything more than a strong play driver at the AHL level and replacement level call-up. He certainly didn't do anything to impress with the Leafs, in his limited chance.

Sure. A worthy gamble I guess. If he doesn't do much, then he will walk as an RFA. The NHL experience should help him. He has more NHL experience at 23 than someone like Johnsson which surprised me.

dangle a smurf in front of the Dube and he gets the sweats and can't think clearly

i guess his theory is if you throw enough of these smurfs against the wall one has to stick

Perhaps, I see it as just depth swap move for now.

He could also be more RW depth if they move Kapanen or Bracco.

This is just a weird trade. There is no win or lose here, its just weird. 4th line guy that is tiny for a guy that wouldn't crack the leafs lineup anyway. I wonder how long Dumbass worked on this thing for? No sandpaper.

Let me give this to you straight. Nylander is tougher than this guy.....NYLANDER! It said on his profile that he stood his ground once. Hahahaha, I saw this kid play and he is a child. Why the hell am I typing in italics. Damn it all to hell!! Where the hell is the italics button on my keyboard?
Always have to read your posts with a slight head tilt. The use of italics only makes it worse. ;)

No real strong feelings on this. Don’t think we lost much in this trade and don’t think we gained anything significant. Just a minor trade overall.
