The Leafs have proven to be masters of this. You are acting like Tanev isn't aware of how this works. He gives us as many years as he can and when he is no longer an NHLer, he vanishes like every other vet the Leafs have done this with over the last decade.

Acting like this is some terrible decision, you have to be purposefully trying to frame it that way.
Mastery of stupid contracts and playoff failure? Congrats!

alright, lets see how does in Toronto! and how quickly fans turn on him, its a good thing they have an island for players like him.

I don't know how he's going to do in the near future, neither do you.

The issue is you attempting to portray this guy as already "falling off a cliff" as of this moment is completely and totally unfounded, downright absurd.

The man ate some of the toughest minutes in the entire league against Jack Eichel and the leagues MVP in the playoffs and was on the ice for ONE 5 on 5 goal against.

They actually can't, Dallas was the only team that could offer him 8 years
Why would that matter? Who the f*** would give a broken down 34 yrs old 8 years

Anything more than 4 is stupid but it’s Treliving….

Because you can keep the AAV down, and just buy out the rest of the deal when there isn't much left and cap is up to a gazillion anyway. Or he retires, or he goes to LTIR.

This used to be much more common before the NHL capped contracts to 8 years.

I'm hoping he doesn't even sign with the Leafs because I want him on the Canucks. If the Leafs pay a minor pick for him, that would make it even better.
