The key for Kadri to put up big numbers is how he's used on the PP.

Last year, I just felt that Kadri was out of place on that top PP, he made some bad decisions and I feel like he's not a big threat in the center of the ice on the PP.

Also, unrelated but Tavares needs WAY more looks on the PP next year.
Yes, his PP is a huge part of his scoring. He's very good at getting free in odd man situations, like Kessel in Pittsburgh, benefitting from being the fourth or fifth best player, when someone had to be left open.

With lots of time on a good PP, he may well hit 30 goals again. (He's never been a 30-30 man, as someone claimed.)

To be fair Kadri will be playing with much better wingers than Brown and Marleau this upcoming year as well.

The guy above you penciled in 2 linemates who managed to score 37 & 25 points last year (Donskoi, Burkovsky). That's sounds like more of the same for Nazim. He gets more points this year if he clicks on the top PP with the AVs top three. Otherwise, meh.

Also possible, which would make a comparison even harder: first or second line winger vs third line center?

Honestly, of all the LW that will play on the leafs this year, Agostino seems the most Hyman-like of the bunch.

You re forgetting kadri had plenty of time with willy and kappy too.

Donskoi/Burakovsky/compher/jost is not really an upgrade over what he played with last year.

I'll put it this way, if Kerfoot was still with Colorado this coming season, he probably ends up as their 2nd line center because Soderberg is getting really old and Colin Wilson isn't as skilled.

I see them as near equal. Kadri is more physical while Kerfoot is faster but they both have similar skill imo.

A few years back, obviously Kadri wins but he seems like he's lost a step.

1.soderberg is on the coyote
2.wilson is a winger

Yea hard to say since he'll be competing for minutes with Mikheyev, Johnsson and Moore on the LW. Maybe he'll get a chance higher up while Hymen is out.

It comed down to who can who the job. Moore's a small guy who also plays RW, but was solely 4th liner last year with less experience. Mikheyev has never played in NA. And, yes, Hyman may not be available until a month in. Lots of ways this can shake out for LW this year. Yeah, there's competition, and Aberg and Kerfoot also play LW, but there's also a lot of players who are not exactly proven for the bottom 2 spots, not to mention maybe a couple spots on RW if Marner holds out.

TO's LW depth for this year;

Kerfoot, Alexander

Johnsson, Andreas

Hyman, Zach

Moore, Trevor

Petan, Nicolas

Agostino, Kenny

Wilson, Garrett

Åberg, Pontus

The above have NHL experience, in the "A":

Engvall, Pierre

Marchment, Mason

Timashov, Dmytro

Our newest KHL great hope.

Mikheyev, Ilya

I'm hoping Kerfoot will be the 3rd line center next year, if he's not Nylander will probably have to be.

The LW I'd like to see this year:

Johnsson, Moore, Aberg, Mikheyev and Engvall.

That's what I'd like to see, I think Hy should be on the 3rd or 4th lins.

Kerfoot over Kadri. Likely playing similar roles (3C with PP time), Kerfoot counts for less against the cap and is signed for a season longer.

Barrie over Gardiner. Barrie might only be a Leaf for a season, but Gardiner is currently unsigned. Right side D is also more of a team need in comparison to left side D. If Rielly is viewed as a better fit on his strong side, Rielly-Barrie could also potentially be more of a pairing than Gardiner-Rielly were.

Nazem Kadri has impressed his peers with his all-around play. The blockbuster deal the Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs announced on July 1 made sense for both teams. Colorado desperately needed a second-line center, while Toronto was able to sacrifice a talented forward to upgrade its blueline with Tyson Barrie. But what comes as a surprise to most, most notably Nathan MacKinnon, is just how talented Kadri actually is.

“He’s a lot better than I thought he was,” MacKinnon said. “I think in Toronto he was held back a little bit. He’s a great shutdown player and will continue to be that, but he’s got a lot of offensive upside that I don’t think the league has seen yet.”

Kadri has been skating on a line between young forward Tyson Jost and newcomer Joonas Donskoi. The three have impressed from the onset, even drawing praise from head coach Jared Bednar in the early days of camp.

Someone should tell Nate thinking isn't his strong suite, Kadri has been given ample opportunity and last season was his only one not in the top 6.

I’ll be rooting for Naz, just because he’s gone don’t see the need to tear him down.
