Gards loves the stretch
Hainsey had no other choice because he could not skate
Z I think everyone will find out this upcoming season is not good enough
Rielly did what he wanted either way last year
Dermott can do the stretch
OZ like the stretch too
It is a completely different defense now. Gards, Hainsey Z and OZ are gone. Hard to play the stretch when ur guys don't like it or it does not suit their games. I don't think Babs has any choice. We will see in camp but i suspect we will see a more traditional breakout this season irrespective of Babs.

I am not saying that your views are incorrect; what I am trying to say is that eventhough defense is not built to do the stretch using all the points you have raised; I don't see babcock changing his system much; --- but as I mentioned before I hope to be proven wrong

We will all see at camp at MC in September. If he forces a system onto people that are well suited to it then team will suffer. If team suffers then expect Babs to be let go by XMAS. Talent alone is not enough in the NHL. Maybe really early in season but not when game gets tighter.

This trade stings still. Heart and soul type of player that cared about the jersey, his team mates etc. Mark Hunter would have never done this. Kadri made a mistake in 2 playoffs but defending your team mates is honourable as well. Kadri will win a Cup in Colarado before the Leafs win one, imo.
If he cared about the jersey and his teammates he wouldn't cost them 2 consecutive series by not playing

Thank u next

That game 2 + suspension was a complete farce that the league should be embarrassed about.

Probably ranked 3rd on the dirtiest sequences in that game and ofc it's a Leafs player that gets the suspension.

Meanwhile Chara runs around punching helmet-less players in the back of the head and nobody says a f***ing word.

That series is a black eye on the league. All the real deal hockey people and fans know what went down vs the Bs.

Agreed. It's easy to get overly emotional at the time, but even several months later I still believe it was complete bullshit that he got that suspension. The officials were beyond atrocious and let the game get way out of hand. Plus I feel like DeBrusk intentionally baited it and sold it to draw a suspension

While I do think there were worse things that were let go, Kadri still needed to control his emotions better and I am a big Kadri fan.

Honestly I still dont know why I give a f*** about watching hockey anymore. The refs were not only letting Chara and co run around cheap-shotting Leafs without any concern for being disciplined, they called so many BS penalties on the Leafs. Gardiner the 3rd man in the scrum eh? What an utter f***ing joke.

it wasn't only this last series either. There was all kinds of horseshit going on in that 2018 series too (game 5, SIX CONSECUTIVE PENALTIES CALLED AGAINST THE LEAFS).

It just really drives me f***ing crazy when people try and say it's just the Leafs being undisciplined or how it's just "good old playoff hockey" to justify the Bruins blatant cheap shots.

Love Kadri too, but I love the trade and Barrie's a hell of a player.

Real talk though, Kadri's biggest mistake was assuming he's operating under the same rules as Bruins players. 2 years in a row he made that mistake.

Yup still love Kadri, but the trade was amazing. Barrie is a great player.

Thats a fair way of describing Kadri's suspension.

That's why Mark Hunter doesn't have a job in the NHL.

As for Kadri, if you're not smart enough to learn that different rules apply to you after your 5th...6th? suspension, odds are you're not going to learn after your 7th or 8th either.

i wonder how this trade will be perceived when Barrie walks or demands a huge cap hit to re sign

If he deserves the raise - then I'll still be fine with it. If he plays like a top-four\top two he'll get paid like one

My assumption is that they have a plan in place for both Barrie/Muzzin being UFA's. Letting both walk (knowing what we know today about our players) would be an issue for me.

I get the impression this is a team assembled to win the cup. I don't think very much thought has gone in past that. I mean, the D core is rental. We are all in. If we werent we would be be flipping Muzzin, Barrie for picks etc. Marner is screwing the team right now pretty much.

Would you prefer we had a worse player signed long term instead? You wanted to hang on to Zaitsev as our top pairing RHD while we're trying to win a cup? What would you prefer?

We put Barrie in a position to succeed, make every attempt to make him feel at home in Toronto and as a vital part of a team built to challenge through his competitive years, and then open up enough cap space for a competitive offer. I think the year we get with him plus the chance that we can resign him would outweigh the value of having a lesser player controlled for longer.

If the CBA reopens he will sign for less here I think.

He doesn’t want to go into a lockout with no money

I've said it a million times, the league is still horny for letting younger teams 'learn their way' and letting vet players/teams get away with too much garbage, like Chara literally sucker punching Tavares and dropping him...

Babcock needs to use his pedestal sometimes and call out the refs and the league in those times, but sadly he's a bit of a caveman himself.

More than all the cheap plays, just call the blatant hooks and illegal picks that teams run. The Bruins are no where near as fast or as skilled as the Leafs, but they can keep up with them because the refs let them obstruct because it's playoff hockey.

Pretty sure Babcock already called out the officials in a game, and it only made things worse. The referees really don't take to criticism very well, and actively seek revenge.

Age has nothing to do with that. If Chara was the Leaf and Tavares the Bruin, we all know what would have happened: wall to wall faux outrage.
