Chicago obviously saw some value in Mrazek's aggressive style and experience better fitting the mix they had. They want to tank but still have to ice a semi-competent team, and Mrazek probably bounces back for them. Maybe, like San Jose with Marleau, they can turn him into a pick eventually. Pretty solid job for them mining another first round pick out of the league's charity bin. Seth Jarvis, Corson Ceulemans, Sam Rinzel would sure look good in our pool, but at least Dubas is learning the ropes... hopefully before they hang him.

Going to revolutionize the game by signing two minimum contract goalies and playing 30 minutes of the game with skaters... game changer.
With mrazek out the door if they found two cost effective solutions they felt comfortable with they could really grab an impact player. They have over 12m to fill goaltending and a couple support forwards.
That’s actually pretty good

It's the last year and a half body of work that has me losing my faith in the upcoming offseason. With the exception of Bunting and Giordano (two local guys) it's been bad, really bad. My faith has been shook.
I mean tbh...I don't pay much attention until we make the playoffs. Till then just enjoy the ride IMO...win or lose. Definitely get the shook feeling, I thought we'd be able to expel the demon this year...but alas..again next year. Man I can't even imagine how it must have been for the cubs fans...lol

I dont think anyone has a problem with the value of the trade, it wasn't too bad at all. More the need to pay to get rid of a guy signed a year ago isn't ideal
That’s on mrazek, if he played to even his career norms he’s a guy you move for nothing. Unfortunately this isn’t a video game and guys have unpredictable seasons every so often, cut the losses and move on, no sense crying about it.

The year and a half where he got bunting Kase and kampf for half of what hyman and two elcs would’ve cost? Or where he got Gio for a couple 2nds and extended him at league minimum while Florida sends off firsts for chiarot?
Yeah, I totally get where you’re coming from
Kase and Kampf are so overrated around here. They're nothing special. Bunting is great but he was gifted to us. Ya, that's it. Imagine what we could've done with 6M in cap space rather than signing Mrazek and Ritchie which both costed us picks to get rid of.

This post shows transparency too.
How so? Creating nearly 4m in cap space to move back 13 spots in a glut spot of the draft is good business, in a flat cap having room is an asset in itself, I don’t want to hear about how mrazek should’ve blah blah blah… if he played to his decade long career norms, or better yet what he showed in Carolina they’re moving up a few spots by moving him not back, shit happens. All gms make mistakes, some even double down on them. Kyle isn’t one of them, be thankful of that.

Has anyone even bothered to count how many 1st round picks Dubas has traded away in his tenure?

I can't praise Kyle for getting out of a mistake. A mistake is a mistake.
Teams competing for cups trade away firsts, Florida has one top 100 pick for the next 3 drafts. He also recouped a top 15 pick and a recent 2nd rounder for a guy that didn’t fit and was able to clear 6.3m in combined cap for next season and a grab a top 6 Physical RD for the stretch drive at the overall expense of a 3rd (or a 2025 2nd) and a 13 spot slide back this year from 25 to 38.

I think people still have the right to be frustrated we have had to pay to dump a quite a few cap dumps the last few years, regardless if it was unlucky. But your right it isn't a huge deal, the huge deal is who is picked to be the starter this year

2 as far as I can count, one is for the Lou's Mistake with Marleu...so technically 1?
He traded one for muzzin, which is fine, one for foligno which was very bad, one for unloading marleau’s albatross that Lou left as a parting gift and one to unload mrazek while gaining back a pick 13 spots later. He also brought one back(15th in 2020) into the organization for a forward who didn’t fit in the lineup. On the surface one could say “he’s spent 4 firsts hurrrr durrrr” and be accurate, but leave out crucial info about those transactions.
Imo the only brutal one was foligno, I do however recall a bunch of the miserable navel gazers in here being the ones who wanted foligno the most.

What about the team? What about the future? What about the draft picks squandered?

The prospect pool is fairly paltry. Why on earth would I applaud another bottle of Dubas Liquid Paper to cover up up his mistakes?

Squandered? he moved back 13 spots and likely will still grab a guy scouting had in their top 20/25. That’s how unpredictable this draft is.
The prospect pool is not paltry considering they’ve been in contender status for a few season and and have not been prioritizing draft assets like rebuilding teams.
Want to see a horrible prospect pool? Check out the islanders, Vegas, Pittsburgh, Boston…
There’s some good prospects in the fold, do your research

Chicago is going to use Mrazek’s horrible goaltending straight to Bedard.

Its so disheartening to have a GM that plays so free and loose with Leafs draft picks that his scorched earth approach to constantly mortgaging the Leafs future to bail himself out of his own mistakes,

I could have won a million dollars betting Dubas was going to deal Leafs 1st away again for the 4th straight year to deal with his cap mismanagement.

So he traded Leafs 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th from this draft class alone,. .

That's a possibility too. But I feel like Mrazek is the type of goalie who plays better on a looser team, so that plus goalie performance variance means he might actually do OK next year.

The posters arguing that it's his fault rather than Dubas's fault are out to lunch. People could guess that Mrazek and the Leafs weren't a fit from day one, and now the GM who made that evaluation is gearing up for a franchise-defining one.

this is a good trade, cap space is crucial and we just opened up almost $4 million.

now I gotta see what we do with it.

Draft Schmaft……you think teams who allocate large percentage of the cap to their top 5 players need influx of capable players every couple of years on ELC, why would a team supposedly a cup contender need depth.
