Confirmed with Link: [TOR/CBJ] TOR acquire Riley Nash for Conditional. 7th Pick in 2022

The obvious line for Nash is Tavares' line. This guy is a bruiser, with good offensive, cycling ability. Forget ancient shut down line talk. Every line, needs to score as well as shut down, and play through the abuse that is the NHL playoffs.

By all accounts, this guy is an offensive blackhole. You don't want him playing with your best offensive guys. He is a 4th line C.

So if I got this right at this moment the Leafs are $300,000 over the cap limit. Nash at the moment is part of the total cap hit today because he is on LTI not LTIR. So before the puck drops tonight the Leafs have to be below the cap, which means there has to be some type of transaction in order for that to happen?

Pretty much a good upgrade on Travis Boyd. He was pretty solid in Boston against us, but I don't remember him too much from the bubble play. But I could see some value in having him disrupt the hell out of a McDrai or something.

Here’s how I understand it:

The Leafs acquired a very good defensive forward with considerable playoff experience for a negligible cost, a sixth or seventh rounder in 2022.

This has no cap implications for the remainder of the regular season. Nash can be activated for the playoffs, however, by which time he is expected to be fully recovered from his present injuries.

There are probably real dollar implications for Columbus, however. They are not a wealthy team and not having to pay Nash’s salary may have been important to them. My speculation: the real dollars salary relief may have been more important to them than the draft pick. It is also just possible that a further trade with Columbus might involve salary retention that these real dollars savings would help pay for. But that, as I say, is speculation

Putting Freddie on LTIR would provide about $5 M in cap space, but only if he stays on the LTIR the rest of the regular season. That seems an unlikely and very risky course of action unless a) the Leafs know his injury is lingering or more serious than we know (The Leafs would certainly try to hide such an injury, for obvious reasons.) Or b) If the Leafs acquire a reliable goalie before the deadline, it could be a sign Freddie will stay on LTIR.

It’s going to be an interesting weekend!
They need to get a goalie before monday anyway. The depth needs a bump up when both your goalies could go down at any time on a recurring injury. Safe approach is get one.A good one on a Ufa contract or term goalie you use for playoff insurance and expose but are completely fine with keeping if they don’t get claimed in the expansion draft. Whoever that might be is anyone’s guess

Can someone tell me how much cap space we have?

Some people saying 5-6 mill, some saying 1.5ish mill.

How much space?

Thanks.

Leafs deal for some playoff grit and potential cap space in injured Riley Nash | Toronto Sun

The Maple Leafs have traded for the kind of playoff grit that defeated them in two recent springs — and also gave themselves some cap room for a possible larger deal by Monday’s NHL deadline .

In a late Friday deal, they acquired two-way forward Riley Nash from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2022. The 31-year-old Nash, who sprained his knee a few days ago and is out four to six weeks, will see the balance of his $2.75 million US cap hit, filed to LTIR, which can be used by the Leafs to go after bigger fish the next few days.

If Nash returns to action when expected — around the time the Leafs start the first round after May 10 — and he plays in one quarter of their total post-season games — the draft pick becomes a sixth rounder.

The answer is the same as before, no additional cap space. The 1.5M cap is by putting Freddy in LTIR, so that they can make this trade. I understand that Leafs moved Freddy out of LTIR after Leafs moved Nash to LTIR. In terms of REAL $, I read somewhere that Leafs will pay around $600K (??). BTW, Do leafs over its insured contract number yet?

Same fluctuating daily cap as we had before he got traded to us. He will never count against our cap. He’s a ghost. He’s a “Nashy Ghost”

12:00 noon daily the cap changes on off days. Capfriendly is not showing Andersen on ltir yet.

Mikheyev - Engvall - Simmonds
Kerfoot - Nash - Spezza

maybe Kerfoot is gonna be part of a package that gets that top-6 winger that moves Hyman down to line 3?

Hall/Foligno/whoever - Matthews - Marner
Galchenyuk - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Nash - Hyman
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds

in case of injury, slot in Thornton, Barabanov or Robertson depending on the need. Or maybe they do it without moving Kerfoot and he stays as an option.

We're going to start seeing some players get tested for a playoff run now that we aren't pinching to accrue cap space. I'd be surprised if we don't see Robertson and Liljegren get a chance to make their case.

Previously Leafs have been forcing a very lean 20-man roster, avoiding healthy-scratching anyone they would otherwise have to waive to send to the taxi squad. Now that we've activated LTIR, we can carry 21 man rosters, and more while Andersen is still out. So we could see guys like Thornton, Simmonds, Dermott, Bogosian get a healthy scratch here and there to give some others guys an opportunity to show their progress and give them some NHL pay.
they ain't benching simmonds,,no way
he has missed way too much time as it is,,they need every game to get him up too speed and rocking it

I think he's the 13th forward right now .. Can't see them sitting Thornton. But we will see how the deadline shakes out if Engvall or Kerfoot are moved. If the Leafs are moving any roster players, it's those two. But adding another roster player still puts him in the press box.

If he does play, it likely will not be on a line with both Spezza and Thornton. Not enough speed.

Probably plays with a mix of Kerfoot, Engvall, Mikheyev, and/or Simmonds
There not moving Engval,,,,,,,,not a chance

They are grooming this 24 year old 6.5 guy into their 2way 3rd C (ala Lowry) i frankly think he is playing outstanding , when one considers he only started playing C sometime last season in the AHL,,we have our 3C well covered next season at a great 1.25m cap hit

Assuming we don't add anyone anymore (we may but for now just play along); what is teh forward line up when fully healthy? who are you expecting to come out of the line up?

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Gally-JT-Willy
Mikheyev-Engvall-Simmonds
Jumbo-Kerfoot-Spezza

is what we were running; who comes out for Nash?

should be Jumbo, but will they have the balls to move him out of the lineup?

Keefe passed the buck on being asked if Andersen is on long term injured reserve retroactive. He said, “yeah i think something of a move went on but I’m not sure on that stuff”, Kyle will make a announcement on that after the trade deadline passes I’m sure”.

Sketchy, they won’t even speak to LTIR movement.

There is cap information in this link
Maple Leafs' Keefe: No timeline for Andersen's injury
