Confirmed with Link: [TOR/CBJ] TOR acquire Riley Nash for Conditional. 7th Pick in 2022

Okay after reading through 16 pages here and the Jonas&Mirtle article on the Athletic, I'm more confused than ever.

How much cap space do we have again? Everyone says we gained cap space here with the Nash trade, yet Mirtle says we didn't.

So? :)
I like the trade either way btw.

Every time in the past I've looked into a claim that LTIR was giving a team more cap space, the claim has been false. I guess it could be different this time with the crazy cap voodoo the league has done this season with Covid hockey.

I think this is simpler: he can't play until the point in the season when you're allowed to exceed the cap.

There are four hundred pound people who literally drink a few glasses of water a day, and eat maybe some lettuce and tomatoes, no salad dressing and stay obese.

Then there are people like my wife who can eat more than a football team and stay in perfect, fitness model shape.

she loves to eat sure, but she doesn't show off. But she could eat two large pizza's by herself, and you could say, doesn't look one ounce heavier, still a perfectly flat stomach

Hormones, bisphenol A i plastic, etc... Its pandora's box. If people knew how to govern their hormones, well they would not believe a word about cancer, aids or covid.

So the lid is still on the box.
Agreed, and I will take it a step further. There is and only ever has been one illness.

Cellular toxicity. The rest is just symptoms of the type of toxicity.

We didn’t gain space. We have about $1.5m, same as before.

I think we get a little more until the trade deadline (not sure how much). Its more about getting depth while you can (before trade deadline) that costs almost nothing in trade and doesn't affect your cap negatively.

If we don't intend to play Freddy until the playoffs, we have an extra $5.8 million in space, they simply won’t have room to activate Andersen until the playoffs if they get a high price player in trade. I don't think that is the plan though. (unless they are committed to running with Campbell - which is OK if he continues to play well.) What happens if something happens and Campbell gets hurt or he absolutely self destructs...you need Andersen as a backup plan.

You can't gain space by adding an LTIR player. The amount that gets offset by putting them on LTIR is exactly equal to their cap hit. We added Nash's cap hit, then cancelled it out by putting him on LTIR.

Yeah I think we just basically got Nash for free... so were in the same spot as we have been but with a depth 4C if needed.

OK, this is ridiculous. I'm 7 years older than O'Neill and in 10 times better shape than him and he was a pro athlete. How could he have fallen off that fast? He was still in the league 15 years ago, I've never been in more than a beer league and I'd be comfortable going head to head against him on the ice right now. WTF? Seems like a really good guy and someone I'd love to hang out with so it feels slimy saying this but...damn.

Maybe after spending the first 30 or so years of his life doing what was necessary to play hockey at the highest level in the world, he has decided that fitness is no longer a priority for him.

Not everyone has the same values.

Confused as to how we don't get any cap space out of it. He's on LTIR, why don't we get that space?

LTIR gives you relief to replace a player’s cap hit. So we added his contract and then got relief from it, it’s a wash.

Great move for the playoffs that doesn’t effect our cap situation right now.

Sounds like a smart deal to me.

Understanding the cap makes my head hurt, tho.

I really wonder how the fourth line shakes out come playoff time. Depending on line composition....Kerfoot, Nash, Engvall, Simmonds, Spezza, Thornton. Cases for all time play above each other.
