One season after killing the draft in a year that has a clear path to the semis.

If not now, then when? You don't win cups by having the most draft picks.

I can agree, but TOO many trades is entering the territory of looking to buy a championship. Kind of like teams do in the joke that is the modern NBA.

Too all the people saying this was a dumb overpayment... COME ON!!! this guy is an amazing player, he HITS! 'which , last I checked... only Holl and Simmonds do' he can play, he has grit, he is a team player, and he is a leader!... GREAT! trade! I am feeling VERY confident in our team after todays signings!!!!

HALL
IS
GARBAGE

The fact multiple teams would spend a 1st on Foligno and not on Hall should tell you a lot.

It tells me Boston got a steal while we overpaid because of an ill-advised bidding war.

We'll have to see how he does on a real team in Boston.

The salt on the mainboards is INCREDIBLE

Just no words

I know its impossible but Dubas please make Laine a Leaf by tomorrow.

CLOSE YOUR MOUTH!!!!
Laine is a big baby that won't listen to coaches, is the worst 2 way player paid that much in the league, and he can't even score goals... again... CLOSE YOUR MOUTH!... =) ; Yours truly: Solid 41 year Leaf fan.

I heard all the same about Galchenyuk and he's looking great!

Imagine if Laine just needed to play on a big market team to get motivation.. IMAGINE if he got his scoring touch back again with us. Unstoppable forward group. He's a sleeping beast i think he still has it in him. Just needs good linemates and a big market/ spotlight team

Even if you feel that Foligno is a better fit here than Hall, the fact that Foligno cost us a 1st and Boston got Hall for merely a 2nd, and NYI got Palmeri+Zajac for a 1st...we significantly overpaid.

Or more likely the market just deems Folingo at 1.35 million worth more then Hall at 4 million or Palmeri+Zajac at 5.2 million.

Palmeri + Zajac cost a combined 5.2 million against the cap.

Folingo + Nash(LTIR) will end up costing a combined 1.375 million against the cap.

We got a better deal and still have cap

Dubas has been killing it. Ever since that Kapanen trade. I'm happy with the team he's built. I like our chances heading into the playoffs as well.
But some adjustments have to be made within the team. For example, the PP has to be addressed ASAP. And its pretty obvious Rielly is the problem. Special teams have been our kryptonite in the playoffs in years past. The PK is great but PP is a nightmare. Simply put if we're not taking advantage of our 5v4 opportunities, we're not winning sh*t.

Also adding some defensive depth would be a nice way to cap off the trade deadline.

The same 4th rounder that we spent on a double retain for Foligno could have been spent to get Hall down to $2 mil or Palmeri+Zajac to an easily affordable amount.

San Jose is retaining 1.375 million on Folingo, for Hall they would need to retain 2 million so the cost would be higher then a 4th and for Zajac and Palmeri the retention for San Jose would also be higher. Maybe the ask in that scenario is a 2nd instead of a 4th, who know's. In any case it sounds like they prefer the sand paper of Folingo more then the scoring potential of Hall

I agree with your thoughts 100%... I think we will see a Dman coming our way today!

Crazy to think we had to give up a 1st to get Foligno and Boston gave up a 2nd for Hall. :help:

Not that I wanted Hall, but damn who knew that Foligno had more value than Hall at the trade deadline.

I just can't believe you're butthurt not having gotten Folingo.... He is a way better, and more meaningful than Hall... Hall has no sandpaper bro, Leaf's need that! as well as Folingo's vet experience... also... this draft is meh... it wasn't scouted, nobody really knows nothing about anyone for the most part compared to a regular season scouted draft... and lastly... Leaf's 1st pick will be a late first obviously... so in the end, they get a real good, hard hitting, heart on his sleeve player, for next to nothing... I AM GOOD!

Keep in mind the prorated salaries on the retention, make it far less in real dollars. It's a trivial difference that would not result in a swing that wide.

People are overthinking Foligno trade you gotta look at it as a whole

I am sure the deal was Foligno + Nash from the begining. We waited for Foligno because of cap reasons IMO so that we can also fit another play (Rittich)

We basically added Foligno+Nash+Rittich for (1st, 3rd, two 4th rounders, and a 6th round pick) while geting 2 teams to retain 75% of the cap on Foligno and 50% of the cap on Rittich.

If you want to blame Dubas then blame him for the overpayments to Tavares, Matthews and Marner; if tavares had signed for 10, Matthews at 10 and Marner at 9 we would have had around 4 million in cap and the price would not have been this high; this 4 million in cap space would be with us for the duration of the 3 playing together and more cap room

At least dubas isn't pushing his moronic EA Sports mantra anymore so that is good.

I wonder if Babcock is out there somewhere cussing thinking.... "dubas you d-bag; you couldn't do this when I was there?" LOL

Foligno?! Why?!
For that price we could've gotten Patrick Laine instead, now that his value has gone down. Dubas should get fired...

Well how much money is hall getting from the bruins, and how much is Foligno getting from us?
