Honestly, I'll take Folingo over Hall, considering our team identity and needs. Columbus and Boston eliminating the Leafs has proven to me you win with defensive minded, physical players that show up every game and grind. Super stoked to get Folingo.Foligno went for a 1st+4, Hall for a 2nd+marginal prospect. Unreal.
Foligno is a great pick up, probably the exact player the Leafs needed and didn't even have to give up that much. He's a great playoff performer and will probably play much better now that he's not on CBJ.
Was hoping you guys didn't get him but Dubas did well!
How does giving up a very late 1st and 3rd and 2 4ths without giving up any prospects or roster players in any way a negative outlook ?Risky, Dubas. Looks like we're betting on this year
We must have made by far the most trades out of any team since the off season. Stacking a pile of good looking names onto our roster and throwing away picks is usually not rewarded by the hockey gods.
What do you think about his skating?
We keep losing 1st round because we are always out muscled and do not carry enough physicality to match, now we can play any style with skill or hardnose with guys like Simmonds, Foligno, Bogo and Hyman that is what Tampa lacked until last season they beefed up with strength to go with their high skillWhy can't we be in the 'win now' stage and also remain in the win for the future stage as well like Detroit did for so many years in their hey day? You have a good Leafs team right now, but if you want to maintain a good Leafs team in the future you of course have to keep drafting and developing prospects well in addition to trading your players who have value that you can't keep for other propects and picks.
I don't know why people keep thinking that we only have a few years to stay at the top and compete when as long as Matthews is here then the Leafs window to win the Cup will always remain open.
Can he skate while holding a beautiful silver cup over his head ?He's not the greatest skater, but he doesn't need to be since he has pretty good IQ and plays well positionally.
AM has been taking the body much more this season but no doubt adding a guy like Foligno along with Simmonds, Bogo and Hyman will give this core far more confidence to get more physicalWhat are the chances Foligno’s physical in your face gritty game rubs off on 6’4” Matthews?

Totally agree bud, sooo looking forward to post season carrying some more snarl nowyep. Those names you mentioned in your post will flick like a switch once the postseason starts. The game is going to get REAL physical. It will be an amazing sight to see the Leafs bringing the hurt to the opposition
Nice to hear that. It is going to be exciting in a next few weeks. He's not the greatest skater, but he doesn't need to be since he has pretty good IQ and plays well positionally.
One season after killing the draft in a year that has a clear path to the semis.Risky, Dubas. Looks like we're betting on this year

Taylor Hall was being called out by people in Buffalo for not showing up enough. We do not need those type of players on this team. A team like Boston has enough of a work horse identity to take on Hall and maybe make it work but I don't think Toronto has enough of those "grind them down" and out work them type of players (even though we've improved a lot in that area) to take a gamble on Hall.
So glad the Leafs dodged that one.....50% retained.
Even if you feel that Foligno is a better fit here than Hall, the fact that Foligno cost us a 1st and Boston got Hall for merely a 2nd, and NYI got Palmeri+Zajac for a 1st...we significantly overpaid.
But if it is the player you want.....cost becomes rather inconsequential between a 1st and a 2nd.Even if you feel that Foligno is a better fit here than Hall, the fact that Foligno cost us a 1st and Boston got Hall for merely a 2nd, and NYI got Palmeri+Zajac for a 1st...we significantly overpaid.
