As a leafs fan, this common sentiment from B’s fans worries me. Most teams have pretty valid opinions on their players
If you take Carlo for what he is you'll love him

Bruins also had the 2015 draft stink when he was one of the brighter picks.... in the second round.

He skates well and doesn't treat the puck like a grenade, good position Good defense good decisions usually with the puck and away.

Just solid steady quiet mid pairing defensive defenseman.

Not flash no big plays no big hits.

When you watch him play though, you just wish he was more.

Hmmm. With what Toronto has vs have lacked, Carlo + Laughton are good adds. Goaltending remains insanely suspect. But Edmonton didnt address theirs either, and I’d be a hypocrite if I haven’t said 100x that goaltending is the most lottery ticket position in the game.

If the team can get to the playoffs with an average goalie, the goalie is NHL caliber at minimum and can get hot behind a healthy team playing well. If the team needs a goalie whose going to steal them 20+ points to make the post season in the first place, it doesn’t likely matter - the goalie likely can’t elevate their game much higher than it already is, and it’s way harder for an 18 man roster to get hot and suddenly play Cup winning hockey all the way to a championship.

In other words, a top 10 roster with a #25 goalie can reasonably believe in themselves to play their ass off supporting that goalie and the goalie to get hot and have a good chance at winning. A #25 roster with a top 10 goalie is only making rhe playoffs because the goalie masked the fact that they’re the 25th team in the league. The goalie doesn’t have much room to go up and it’s a lot less likely a #25 roster is going to elevate him to get a Cup.

Goaltending remains suspect while having a vezina candidate as our starter?

Minten traded? Watch the Leafs fan that were claiming him to be a lock 1st liner now say that he was at most a good 3rd liner
I would like to see you cite even 2 Leaf fans who have said this lmao.
I've certainly seen more people say this, than I have seen Leaf fans (even on the LEAFS board) say he was a "lock to be a 1st liner".

Yeah not gonna lie, unless Carlo has some kind of revelation after this trade he is not even close to the player he was 2 or 3 years ago. He's essentially average defensively and downright useless offensively/as a puck mover. He's physical, but you could have had Luke Schenn a very similar type of D for a 2nd and 4th (which was also a big overpay for a #6/7D).
I agree with you. Toronto got finessed on this deal.

You guys paid a first for a guy that was given away with a second round pick. Good try tho bum
That has very little to do with the player's actual ability. Not our fault Yzerman is an idiot and decided to give the player away without even shopping him, and then it was reported multiple GMs would have given up assets for that player if they knew he was available.

I know the Yzerplan and Shanaplan aren't far off from one another, but you don't need to defend it.

Carlo is a solid if not unspectacular minute munching shut down D and a great PKer 90 % of the time.

The other 10% of the time he looks like bambi on skates.

He also has a long concussion history.

Great guy though. Will be excellent in the room.

I like this deal for Boston

Only thing he shuts down are his team's attempts to break the puck out of the zone.
