Depends if you consider Rielly's pairing the top pairing anymore.

McCabe-Tanev tends to get the important minutes.

Hopefully Rielly-Carlo meshes well because a lot of the Leafs' hopes rest on Mo playing at his peak....which he has been very, very far from this season.
Yeah Rielly gets more 2nd pair utilization even though it's the "first pair"

McCabe - Tanev is the best defensive pair in the NHL this season so they'll get the opponent's top guys

Will probably end up being OEL-Carlo.

Toronto's going all in but I just don't think they have as good a team as some of the other ones after we've seen rosters like Fla, Dal and Col are all pushed in.

It's nothing like the Manson trade imo. Manson was still a very good shutdown D when he was moved. Outside of being physical I'm really not sure what Carlo does well anymore.
'Outside of being physical' you're not sure what Carlo does well....?

Do you watch the Bruins at all?

Wanna tell me when he was a physical player? Cause that kinda makes the rest of your post suspect

you wont like him at all above the 2nd pair. he has zero offense
He has zero defence too. Can’t clear the front of the net, can’t clear the zone and I’m as physical sitting on my couch. But he’s big and long and has a good stick (🤔).

Fine, he doesn’t have zero defense, at times he’s been a very good shutdown d-man, but given his size he should always have been a lot better than he is and for a lot longer period of time too rather than just “at times”.

I didn't say consistently, but yes any player who has seasons in the 140+ hits range would be considered a physical player. Nurse doesn't get much more than that and I'd still consider him a physical player, albeit more consistently than Carlo.

Go ahead and tell me what Carlo does well though. I'm sure your eye test says he still defends well, but he really doesn't for a while now. He does it ok, and that's about it.

Like it for TML. He’s been bad this year but he is still young and is a massive RHD with tons of playoff experience. Smart gamble to bounceback and a perfect fit if he does

Also Carlo is closer to a #6 than a #3. I'll meet you in the middle and call him a #5 who suppresses offence at an average level, and contributes nothing offensively or to transition play.
Was he? Most people said he was washed back then too

This is what Carlo looks like on the same chart

First big difference I notice is the QoT. He will have a much better partner in Toronto

Probably not, especially Dallas

We'll see what happens, though. For the first time in the Matthews' era we have elite goaltending which is a game changer

I already did, post is on the same page.

Wanna post the highlight real of his hits and physical play?

Gotta be a ton out there if he's so physical.

Hits stats is about as good and indicator of physical play as +/- is of defensive play
