Interesting to hear some of the takes about Carlo. I wanted him for years, hopefully he isn’t as washed up as some of these posts make him seem.

Personal take, but for me losing Grebs hurts more than Minten. Not that Minten is bad or doesn’t have potential but Grebs brought a lot of what we’ve always lacked. Oddly I’d think calling up Greb for the playoff would of been better than acquiring Laughton for that price

If Carlo were a 28-year-old, top-pair right-shot defenseman making $4.1 million, he wouldn’t be getting moved, let alone to a division rival. There are probably fewer than 10-15 elite right-handed defensemen in the entire league, so we don’t need him to be that. It sounds like he has no offense and isn’t physical, but if all he does is provide stay-at-home defense, I think we’ll take that considering how thin we are at the position. Luckily, we have Tanev for the top pair, so Carlo can slot into the second pair. Hopefully, Rielly-Carlo can be a good second pair, though.

McCabe - Tanev
Rielly - Carlo
OEL - Myers

I literally just compared it to the Manson trade. Big physical #3/4 right handed dman that can PK. Regardless of what you say about him he is clearly a better partner for Rielly than any of Timmins, Benoit, or Myers. And it allows them to move OEL back to his natural side
Carlo is not now and never has been physical player . He’s steady but prone to lapses in coverage and judgement far too often.

Then another 1st for laughton and mccabe a lot for guys that domt really move the meter too much. Good secondary pieces though

I mean, McCabe has been a huge add and I think that sort of illustrates the difference between deadline deals for expiring contracts and guys with term. Muzzin, McCabe, etc., not really huge needle movers as rentals but as longer-term additions to the team they were/are hugely important, especially McCabe who's still on his $2 million retained deal.

I think any Leaf fan would do that deal again. The vibe feels the same here, 1st and Minten for Carlo feels immediately underwhelming, won't deny it, but with significant retention you're getting a dirt cheap contract in a period where the cap is exploding, potentially opening up a lot of space over the next two summers. Of course, he now actually needs to play well.

God I wish we had Muzzin still, but McCabe has been a great Muzzin replacement
I was just thinking that... there was a few days after the McCabe trade before it was announced Muzzin would be out for the rest of the year and I was super excited for a bit... should've been the best defense we ever had if Muzzin returned for the playoffs...

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - McCabe
Giordano - Schenn

Goaltending remains suspect while having a vezina candidate as our starter?

You don’t have an actual Vezina candidate. The triggered-ness of Toronto fans is wild. Your goaltending is suspect AF and the entire league knows it. But pretend your opponents aren’t licking their chops looking at a Stolrarz/Woll duo.

But beyond that I know you’re triggered because I literally posted that the acquisitions made sense and that I don’t believe in paying a goalie. Coming from a poster who is clearly a Rangers fan. I would not pay Igor in 100/100 scenarios. But acting like you have some stalwart duo is wild. You’ve had massively improved team defense. You can win a Cup with your tandem. Your tandem isn’t ever winning you a cup. Get the difference? I literally was mostly complimenting the
moves. It must be really hard living with the prosecution complex of a Leafs fan.

Edited because Leafs fans cry if autocorrect makes a spelling boo-boo.

What the hell does 'kicking their chops' mean?

You also sound way more bothered and triggered than he does.

It's possible he bounces back, but injury history makes that even less likely.

PK is the obvious difference I see and Manson playing harder minutes. I think PK performance is hard to quantify as there's just way too many factors that influence PK performance. Even strength impact is much stronger for Manson in tougher minutes.
the QoC of 64% vs 77% is not that significant a gap. That could literally come down to being stuck on the ice longer vs McDrai and Co due to icings. The QoT difference of 86% vs 31% is very relevant though Manson was stapled to Cam Fowler that year.

I think what is so important for Toronto here is they actually have size on their blue line now. Especially for the playoffs, Carlo can actually clear Tkachuk/Bennett from the front of the net and stand up to their toughness. We all know Toronto doesn't need more soft skill guys.

I read this post 4x and still don’t know wtf you’re trying to say

It means auto correct changed licking to kicking. Mighty, mighty intellects over here on the Leads side of the aisle. Go back to my first post he responded to. It’s about 1% “I’m not convinced by Toronto’s goaltending” and 99% “good trades that make sense, plus I don’t believe goalies are the position to worry about”. Coming back with the whole wtf bro he’s Vezina worthy!!!! is just lame. We all know no Leaf is a Vezina nominee this year and that their goaltending duo is the only questionable link going into the playoffs. God forbid I say something honest whole complementing the most sensitive fan base in the league. Is it part of Marner’s contract that all Leafs fans have to be as soft as him, or is that a coincidence?

He can lay the body, his strong enough to clear the front of the net, and he's going to stand up for teammates in a scrum. Physical doesn't mean you need to send someone to the infirmary it means you don't shy away from contact

There was a perfect partner for Reilly, I miss that man.

Been looking ever since, Brodie, tanev and now Carlo
Who was that player? And why do we have to continually look for a 'perfect partner' for Rielly when its HE who should be improving his partner being the highest paid Dman the team playing top minutes?

Impressive. Doubles down after being both objectively and verifiably wrong

They know their names, because they are maple leaf prospects and they know our prospects better than they know their own.

So they assume they’re 1sts

Danford
Cowan
Amirov

Are the leafs most recent 1st round picks
Cowan was awful at the wotld juniors.
