I'm going to the Panthers / Sabres game here in Florida with a friend for his first-ever game. Not sure if I should even self-identify as a Sabres fan, bring a paper bag or eff it and just wear a Panthers jersey. That this is even an open question somewhat shocks me. Sigh.

My son took his bestie and his bestie's GF to the Sabre games in Prague... and now I'm getting Sabre texts from all of them. I have apologized for all of them for passing on this genetic malady.

I hear there are investors, with money, in Atlanta and Houston, both looking to buy and move a team to their cities.

Never been a better time to sell, Terry!!

After M Donald Grant killed the Mets and traded Tom Seaver in 1977 fans dubbed Shea Stadium "Grant's Tomb". We should start calling the decrepit shithole known as KeyBank Center "Terry's Tomb".

“Terry and I have a long relationship. You guys know that I’m very honest with Terry when I’m asked a question, and if I’ve made a mistake, I tell him I’ve made a mistake,” Adams said. “When I believe I have a solution, I’m going to tell him I have a solution. I certainly am keeping him informed of every possible scenario of what we’re going to do. And ultimately, he’s empowered me to make the final decision, and that’s what I did today.

“Took in all the information, listened, made sure he was in the loop, and when push came to shove, it’s my call. But that’s what I love about Terry, because we do have that relationship where there’s true honesty. I accept responsibility for where we are in the standings. It’s on me.”

then your ass should be shown the door.

Your daily reminder that a GM who had no qualifications for the job and who attempted to build a team in a manner that has never succeeded in the entire history of hockey and failed as spectacularly as any executive in history is in no danger of losing his job because he's a loyal Pegula stooge.

With the overrun ecost Pegula is picking up for the new Bills stadium and the shape of the Sabres barn, don’t be surprised if this actually happens in the next couple years.

I highly doubt that the Pegulas sell the Sabres to someone that will move them out of Buffalo.

Who is going to build the Sabres a new arena? The state? I don’t think the appetite is there for the state to get involved.Keeping an NFL team compared to an NHL team are two totally different things.

The Pegulas are invested in the region long term.

I do not believe they want part of their legacy being the owners that sold the Sabres to Houston or wherever else.

Why would they necessarily move out of Buffalo? There were some rumors about Jacobs and the construction of a new arena, maybe someone else could buy the team and keep it in the city. Ottawa was sold and they stayed in the city, teams don't necessarily move.

The post I was referring to was talking about selling them to an owner that would move them.

If there were an owner that wanted to buy the team and keep them in Buffalo, then I could see the Pegulas going that route IF they wanted to sell the team.

But, I still don't see a lot of news that makes me think the Pegulas want to sell. I still think their plan is to leave both teams to their kids.

The arena is a giant fly in the ointment. Contemporary buildings are getting like $500 Million for renovations, if not, a $1 Billion replacement. The Key Bank Center was built cheaper than its contemporaries as well. It is now 30 years later and the lease is up in 2 short years. The place is showing its age and design flaws, and not in a good, nostalgic way.

Pegula is getting hit over the head with Bills' stadium overrun costs. He sold a portion of that team to fund the construction, and with time, overruns are getting steeper. I would imagine tariffs may make it worse as well.

He is not going to negotiate so easily with the state/county/city with an arena project. Do we think the state will throw in a lot of money? (Maybe?). Reports were he tried to sell equity in the Sabres and that has not happened. They are probably worth between $750 Million and $1 Billion, but probably much less-so locally in their current situation.

The new Highmark Stadium debacle shows that building a new arena in WNY isn't fiscally feasible. I can't see any private entity being able to afford it.

Again, who is going to pay for a new arena?
Given the timing of the lease expiring, my guess is that they try and push for the state and/or county to pay for some upgrades that allow KBC to be the team's home for the next decade or so.

Once money starts flowing with the new Bills stadium, then they will focus on the long term arena home for the Sabres and Bandits.

There are too many people involved with both the Pegulas and local government that don't want Buffalo losing another major league sports franchise on their record.

At this point calling the Sabres a major league sports franchise is a real stretch.

You already have an age group of 20 and under that have never witnessed, iot at least remember, the Sabres making the playoffs. You may not want to hear this but there is not a whole hell of a lot of interest in the Buffalo Sabres in western New York.

That changes quickly if they ever figure out how to win. They have packed the house for special nights.

It might be even harder for Pegula to get money to put up his money for a arena because the Sabres could loose a good percentage of their fans from Canada with what is going on between our countries not to mention the Canadian dollar
