I'm going to the Panthers / Sabres game here in Florida with a friend for his first-ever game. Not sure if I should even self-identify as a Sabres fan, bring a paper bag or eff it and just wear a Panthers jersey. That this is even an open question somewhat shocks me. Sigh.

My son took his bestie and his bestie's GF to the Sabre games in Prague... and now I'm getting Sabre texts from all of them. I have apologized for all of them for passing on this genetic malady.

“Terry and I have a long relationship. You guys know that I’m very honest with Terry when I’m asked a question, and if I’ve made a mistake, I tell him I’ve made a mistake,” Adams said. “When I believe I have a solution, I’m going to tell him I have a solution. I certainly am keeping him informed of every possible scenario of what we’re going to do. And ultimately, he’s empowered me to make the final decision, and that’s what I did today.

“Took in all the information, listened, made sure he was in the loop, and when push came to shove, it’s my call. But that’s what I love about Terry, because we do have that relationship where there’s true honesty. I accept responsibility for where we are in the standings. It’s on me.”

I hear there are investors, with money, in Atlanta and Houston, both looking to buy and move a team to their cities.

Never been a better time to sell, Terry!!

With the overrun ecost Pegula is picking up for the new Bills stadium and the shape of the Sabres barn, don’t be surprised if this actually happens in the next couple years.

Who is going to build the Sabres a new arena? The state? I don’t think the appetite is there for the state to get involved. Keeping an NFL team compared to an NHL team are two totally different things.
The Pegulas are invested in the region long term.

I do not believe they want part of their legacy being the owners that sold the Sabres to Houston or wherever else.

I highly doubt that the Pegulas sell the Sabres to someone that will move them out of Buffalo.
Why would they necessarily move out of Buffalo? There were some rumors about Jacobs and the construction of a new arena, maybe someone else could buy the team and keep it in the city. Ottawa was sold and they stayed in the city, teams don't necessarily move.

The post I was referring to was talking about selling them to an owner that would move them.

If there were an owner that wanted to buy the team and keep them in Buffalo, then I could see the Pegulas going that route IF they wanted to sell the team.

But, I still don't see a lot of news that makes me think the Pegulas want to sell. I still think their plan is to leave both teams to their kids.

The arena is a giant fly in the ointment. Contemporary buildings are getting like $500 Million for renovations, if not, a $1 Billion replacement. The Key Bank Center was built cheaper than its contemporaries as well. It is now 30 years later and the lease is up in 2 short years. The place is showing its age and design flaws, and not in a good, nostalgic way.

Pegula is getting hit over the head with Bills' stadium overrun costs. He sold a portion of that team to fund the construction, and with time, overruns are getting steeper. I would imagine tariffs may make it worse as well.

He is not going to negotiate so easily with the state/county/city with an arena project. Do we think the state will throw in a lot of money? (Maybe?). Reports were he tried to sell equity in the Sabres and that has not happened. They are probably worth between $750 Million and $1 Billion, but probably much less-so locally in their current situation.
