There's probably 50+ posts in this thread showing "Rielly - Carlo" as the new top pairing.
Because he’s slotted with a top pairing guy (when he’s on, Rielly is a #2 IMO) doesn’t mean he’s a #1 d man. Literally no one called him a stud either. He’s a 3 or 4. Which is what everyone has said.

Also, if there’s 50 posts calling him a stud top pairing guy, should be easy to provide an example. I’d like to specifically see someone call him a stud

No way man. I have been confidently assured by Leafs fans that they've just acquired a stud top-pairing shut down dman, you're just hating!
He's an offensive blackhole, and hence I would hope they don't play him on the first pairing. You could play him as a 3rd pairing defenseman, but if you're doing so, why are you giving up a first?

At his current level and with his contract, I think that Carlo actually has some net negative value, so to give up a first for him, yeah.

Watching the bickering in this thread — which is impressive — I feel for Carlo. One or two mistakes and he’ll be red meat for the mob.

Look at threads of virtually any other TDL move - the big ones - and nothing like the gnashing and growling going on in here.

I bet the Laughton thread is much of the same. Wonder what the common denominator is between the 2…

Welcome to Toronto, it’s us against the world just as God intended for the center of the universe

Brandon Carlo just is not very good at all, and a first for him? One of the worst trades here, in my eyes.

I don't know how good Carlo is or will be, or not.

But what I do know is that Treliving and his team know a hell of a lot more about him than any of us do, especially two random posters CJ'ing on a hockey forum.

I mean, it's hard also not to see that Leafs fans on here say s*** that draws the attention from non-Leafs fans..

Before he was traded to Toronto, Carlo was a #4 d man, now all of a sudden he's a legit #2.

That's HF for you, it's the same trend with Oilers, Habs, etc threads.

What do you mean ‘with his contract’? He’s 28 and his cap hit is like $3.6m for 2 more years

That’s a low cap and not tied up for a long term. What the hell are you talking about?

You’d think he was 30 with 5 years left on a $10m deal ….

oh wait …. That’s the Florida deal for Seth Jones lmfao

Carlo is a solid player on a solid contract. My only concern with him is his noggin, he’s been concussion-prone.

If Leafs fans are complaining I don’t really get it, this is a guy that’s played a pretty key role on a team that’s eliminated you from the playoffs like seemingly every year for a decade and a half. Now that team stinks and you get to have their steady guy for the playoffs and beyond (he was our best defender last playoffs imo)

I haven't seen anyone claim him to be a #2 dman. We play in the division, we see him regularly. We have a reasonable idea what we are getting. He's a #4 on our team. Just because you see someone post pairings with Rielly-Carlo as the first one listed doesn't imply we believe he is a top pairing D. I mean, Rielly isnt one of our top 3 defensemen this year, and every Leaf fan knows this.

Carlo will be a terrific fit in Toronto.

They got 2 great pieces in him and Laughton.

I don't see it enough to beat Florida who got Marchand and Jones, both better players on a team that was already better than Toronto.
The best thing the Leafs can hope for is to win their division. Let Tampa Bay & Florida kill each other in the 1st round.

I'd go out on a limb and suggest that any team which manages to beat Florida is going to lose the following round simply because of what Florida does to them along the way, and I do believe Tampa has the depth to be able to knock off the Panthers.

Carlo would play in a similar situation where he had a lot of succes in the past, playing alongside an offensive dman. His best year in Boston was when he played with Krug and will be in a similar situation with Rielly.

I’d love to see knies give bennet a rock bottom. Solid hockey play that it is

Good thing the Leafs loaded up to beat Florida in the playoffs, by acquiring a dman who has been obliterated by Florida in the playoffs for the last 2 years.

I assume you mean, any team that beats FLA will lose the next round. If FLA loses they will take you down with them one way or another. Every one of these three teams is eyeing that #1 seed for sure.

No question when a team even if your rival is offering your 2nd best prospect and 1st overall pick for a Brandon carlo sell. Don sweeney should get props to making this deal.
The Carlo concerns are concussions and liability handling the puck. His biggest strength isn’t his strength it’s his long reach and covering angles. He might be the best in the league at that.
