I don't trust his resurgence this year at all.
Why would anyone, he is in a contract year and is probably taking a performance enhancing substance to get an edge. He'll be like Domi next year and if not for sure the year after. At that point just throw th cup hopes in the trash.I don't trust his resurgence this year at all.
Well sure, but that was a very different team. We've seen this iteration of the Leafs in action for a very long time now. The confidence of many fans is low and, frankly, it should be.7 million on a 3 year deal is good value for JT. I like it.
The decade before was worse
Excuse me sir, do you have a moment to discuss the health benefits of the magical amulet? Why would anyone, he is in a contract year and is probably taking a performance enhancing substance to get an edge. That would make sense in business.Whatever JT signs for I want to instantly say. Wow. Home town discount. 7 x 3 ain’t that.
Don’t get why more guys don’t just take a low salary after they have pocketed 10s of millions.
There is NO way Tavares wants to move his family at this point.
Low ball him and say goodbye if he isn’t a bargain.
Why are they paying a 35 year old 7mil to centre our third line? This guy isn't going to magically get faster, stronger, and more effective the older he gets. He is lucky that he has a guy like Nylander stapled to him to help him with his offensive output. Let's not forget that a lot of that output came from when Matthews was out and he had to benefit of playing with Marner (9 of his 10 points in Nov).
I get he is great at faceoffs, but he is going to need to be more and more sheltered moving forward. If you look at his foot speed early in the season it was great, he has become significantly slower since then. This is only going to become more apparent as he ages out. This is becoming ridiculous; the f*** is management even doing now?
For reference, he has 2 goals and 7 points in 2025 so far. Let that sink in. 2 goals in 11 games should not = 7m/y. He isn't a model of consistency, he is a model of how well his wingers can carry him this year.
Yeah this is way to soon to be resigning him, they need to do this at the end of the season.I always go to bat for JT around here, but you'd think, providing we bow out early again this year, if the philosophy is to change the leadership group in the dressing room and give the team a fresh feel in some way, he'd be an easy candidate to let walk. Doesn't leave us enviable at center, though.
Yeah, I’m with you on this. Just because someone can still put up points doesn’t mean they’re a good fit for the team. Please no... it's time for a change in the lineup. It's fair value but we need something different in the lineup.
It's primarily the team's responsibility to rein that in to a degree in order to balance the team. The team has failed spectacularly in that regard.Whatever JT signs for I want to instantly say. Wow. Home town discount. 7 x 3 ain’t that.

Can they do that? So for the last 3 years we lose 3.5m cap?spread it over 6 years and make it 3.5

Rita Mae BrownIsn't that actually not an Einstein quote?
But it's sports, so insanity might just work!
But it's also the Leafs, and unfortunately the Leafs to maximum embarrassment ratio is an exact science.
Call or mail MLSE. They are gonna do something dumb again, we can all feel it coming.JT for 3 x 7M?
Thanks but no thanks!
Core 4 (+Morgs) is gonna stay together after another PO belt to ass. They are gonna do something dumb again, we can all feel it coming.
The world is going to blow up anyway, so f*** it!Why would anyone, he is in a contract year and is probably taking a performance enhancing substance to get an edge. He'll be like Domi next year and if not for sure the year after. At that point just throw th cup hopes in the trash.
Most teams in the NHL extend the players they drafted.Core 4 (+Morgs) is gonna stay together after another PO belt to ass.
We are unable to accept the truth. Proof is in the pudding.
Nylander being <point per game for 11.5M is a problem. Nylander being <point per game at 6.9M isn't a problem.
I fully agree depth scoring isn't an issue but this thread is about re-signing Tavares for 7M which makes it difficult to find competent depth scoring (especially when Tavares has scored at a 23 goal pace the past 2 playoff runs).
