If only there were high end wingers in Toronto…

I’m not saying he will sign in Toronto. What I am saying is if he signs for the same as Tavares (presumably in Florida) that will just further extend the divide between the two teams in the playoffs.

Have nothing to do with high end winger but about chemistry.

Exemple, one of the teammate crosby had the most succes with was Pascal Dupuis. They had a fantastic chemistry together. That doesn't make dupuis a better player than kessel or mean he would be able to do the same exemple in Washington.

Seriously, he inspires nobody and couldn't lead a horse to water.

How the hell would you know? You are not in the room and know nothing about his relationship with his teammates. You are some random nobody on the internet, who is probably sitting in his mommy's basement, yet you feel qualified to spout off about the relationship between a professional athlete and his teammates?

Tre is a joke!

There is a joke here, but it ain't Tre.

He's made 111M US in his career (135M in current $) so the fact that he wants to bleed us for every last nickel in his final contract is not a good look. And what possible sense does it make to sign him before seeing the playoff performance, unless they're playing the "take it now or leave it" game. When do you just say no? Get some speed in the lineup, this team is getting ugly to watch on most nights.
This is the guy I have wanted them to say no to.

If TOR let's JT walk this offseason, who replaces him? With the fact that there is 31 other teams in the league, who is TOR signing to replace him? There's a ton of really good 2nd line centers to get? I really doubt it.

Next season:

Matthews
Minton
Holmberg
Kampf

?

Forgive me if I don't see Tor making the playoffs next season.

Is there a scenario where we can end up with Bennett

I think thats a tad too much AAV if true. yeah the cap is going up but they will need every bit of it in the coming years.

Johnny shoulda given them a bit more, i think $5M AAV would have been good to get to retirement.

So he isn't allowed to get market value on his next contract? He should give us a discount. Assuming you actually have any value to your employer, can we anticipate you taking a pay cut to help during the coming economic turbulence?

Um, they haven't signed anyone.

Who cares how they play, so long as they win? They are top ten in the league and top four in their conference. They don't exactly suck now do they?

Winning is entertaining, and there are no points for style. Personally, I don't care if they play the f*****g trap so long as they win and make a deep run in the playoffs.

I'm happy bringing 16 and 91 back at the right AAV that allows us to add better pieces. If not, I'm tired of the same stale, old rerun and would rather try something new. The team won't be shit building around 34 and 88. With the right moves, they might be better. While Tre was asleep Carbury and the Caps left us in their rearview mirror. It is only a matter of time that other teams will pass us.
Yep not only the Caps, but Cup champs Florida were able to add guys like Tkachuk, Bennett, Montour and Reinhart. Vegas the Cup winners before that added Eichel, Pietrangelo, McNabb and Stone. Meanwhile we keep running it back with 4 guys eating almost half our cap who can't get us more than a single win in the 2nd round.

I like Tavares but not at $7 million unless he waives his NMC..

Best thing the Leafs could do would be to sign JT and Marner to contracts soon, even if you have to overpay a little, but do not give them no movement clauses. If we stumble again in the playoffs, trade them both in the summer.

I squeeze JT, he doesn't deserve an other sweetheart deal. I love him, he's playing fantastic, he's a real pro, but ultimately he isn't going to be worth 7 million in three years. Do the Leafs a solid John or thanks for your service.

Agreed he doesn’t have to take a discount and we don’t have to renew his contract game of chiccen

I would love this to be 5.5 or 6 but always thought it was unrealistic. I'm comfortable with this after the way he has played this year.

I don't have an issue with this.

Sure I'd like it to be lower and hopefully they defer some money to bring it down.

But what you need to remember is the cap is going WAY up.

Before the extension even starts the cao is going to be 95 million.

Then 105 million

Then 113 million.

7 million doesn't and won't mean what it use to.
