I'm really surprised.

Does great things for Toronto, as they can now roll with an uncontested Andersen/Sparks duo, and frees up a lot of cash.

A little more curious for Anaheim, but I guess it gives them a solid 1B option if Gibson falters.

Like others have said, salary is more important than cap hit for Anaheim.

$2.15 million for 1 year is fine by me.

Thank god Anaheim is there to pick up the tab.

Zero concentration. Super inconsistent. Not very smart either.

It always felt Bernier could be an option for the Ducks given his contract structure. Pretty happy with it. Can't complain about a Gibson/Bernier tandem for under $4M in salary this season. I'm optimistic Bernier can shake his mental issues from most of last season.

Terrible magnet of assets for the leafs. I don't quite get it why pay for goalie when you want to tank. By the time your ready to compete he will be past his prime is does not make a lot of sense to me.

So the conditional pick will end up being next to nothing, right?

This was a handshake deal where Bernier was part of the other deal, but the Leafs paid his bonus. Pretty interesting, actually.

Well done. Get rid of this bum.

He's not a bum... I fully expect him to go Dubnyk and become a decent starter somewhere else but he needed a change of scenery. Win/Win for both teams. No need to spend 9+ mil on unproven goaltending

Leafs are going to be ready to compete in 1-2 seasons.

Who says they want to tank? I think they wanted to tank last season, that's it. Now they are about improving the team with each season.

Sorry when did they tank? And why would you think they would tank again? Don't say last year, as they actually improved everywhere from points to metrics etc. Had a lot of injuries and growing pains, a lot of bad ish players, but that was more trying to get out of the mess they were in.. They singed guys because the prospects weren't ready.

The Leafs aren't tanking anymore. The prospects are all lined up, it's time to move from the bottom and make progress. To do that, you need a goalie.

Andersen is 26. Are you thinking the Leafs are planning a 10 year tank?

I guess this essentially ends the Nonis handprint on the current roster? Other than Holland who likely won't play much of a role if any this season. Now rid of the monster contracts of Kessel, Phaneuf, and thank god Clarkson. And now moving on from Bernier whom he gave up minimal assets for but still he was never a sure fire upgrade to REimer so it was another questionable move on his part

You should probably do some research on a player and see just how old they are. Hes 26 and on a 5 year deal. Settle down.

Carlyle vs. Babcock.

JB will have to face many more shots, and getting shelled.

Bernier produces significantly better numbers when faced with a lot of shots, actually. If you want Bernier to play his best, you want him facing a lot of shots.

Save percentage tends to rise with the amount of shots faced oddly enough.

Actually, there is no statistically significant correlation between save percentage and shots faced. There's a thread in the stats-forum about that. There are individual cases that has a strong correlation though, and Bernier is one of them.

We just signed Andersen to a 5 year $25 million dollar deal. Bernier is on a 1-way contract.. The writing is on the wall man

I preferred giving Bernier another year to finish. If he sucks then we pick up someone next offseason. If not and he returns to his end of season form or his first year here form then we're good.

I feel like this is just Lou shuffling chairs on the titanic and hoping it doesn't sink next year. I'm not sold on Bernier + 1st + 2nd for Andersen + conditional pick and a big extension...

Okay look how long it is taking Oilers and let's face it the Oilers have better building block than leafs. You guy won't be competiing for at least 3 years and probably closer to 5 or 6 which would mean andersen would 33 and declining.

He's 26??? Just because the Oilers rebuild took an extraordinarily long amount of time doesn't mean every other rebuild takes that long lol
