I want Sanchez protected. Important guy next season. Good chance next year that this offence is below average. A healthy rotation of Sanchez, Estrada, Happ, Stroman and Liriano will be very very important.

Agreed. I've changed my opinion on this. We likely don't have the depth in our lineup to defeat the Cubs or Rangers in my opinion. We should protect Sanchez for next season.

Very disappointing loss - that's 2 in a row, Jays are getting the opportunities to take the lead but they are not cashing in

Very disappointing. Feel bad for the new guy but the bats really let us down again. They seemed to have slowed considerably.

Smoak sucks but we already knew that. He shouldn't be getting ab's over Upton.

Think it's time to put a little heat on the shoulders of Jose Bautista. We need this guy hitting at least .250 and to provide some power(yes the walks are great but we need more from him). All talk so far this year and doing little to deserve the money he was asking for. I don't think the jays will miss this guy if this is the version we are getting going forward. Dalton Pompey can get walks and easily hit over .220 for ****s sake (and provide more than 0.4 WAR). Jose needs to really step up for this team because JD and EE can't carry this team all the time.

0.4 WAR....good luck in free agency as a 36 year old with that kind of WAR.

I'm very impressed with the moves management made the past few weeks.

Our team is better this season, AND our prospect pool is improved. I know little about MLB prospects, but apparently both Ramirez & McGuire should slot comfortably in our top 10 (maybe even top 5 according to some analysts I've read).

I'm glad we kept all our top A ball prospects(plus added a couple good AA prospects). They are important because they provide cheap internal depth the next few years and put the jays in better position to make trades/cover injuries. We have nothing right now in AAA/AA and that left the jays relying on a lot of recycled crap the moment we need to call someone up. Next year should be a much better situation with many of those A ball prospects moving up to AA/AAA. We can punt any players not producing and replace them from within with a good young player.

There was really no stud pitcher available worth giving the farm. Have no problem with the jays rolling the dice on Liriano as you're getting a guy with a solid track record. Better to buy low (Grilli, Benoit, Liriano, etc) than buy high on someone.

Not sure about the Feldman trade. I would've rather seen the jays pick up another lefty but oh well it's not a huge deal.

can't blame him. Jays bats have been terrible in extra innings and against bullpens lately.

Yeah, I know. Sometimes you do actually have to score more than one run to win a ball game.

Kinda wasteful, though, don't you think? Really, one run ought to do it.

No fault of the new guy that he got no one out and gave up two hits including the game-winner in a tied game in the bottom of the 14th. How the heck is he supposed to be able to pitch when the rest of the team can't hit? It makes no sense!

He did make quite a first impression, still, though. Not an easy one to forget :(

Scott Feldman made quite a first impression.

At what point do you stop pointing the finger at the pen and point it at the offense? I'm strictly talking extra innings here but the pitching gave up 1 run through 13 innings. You can't ask for much more. This loss wasn't on the pitching staff.

There were indeed some terrific pitching performances. Almost all of them!

I blame the coaching. Shoulda pinch hit Dickey for Smoak and had him bunt.

Wrong time to use him there?

Don't think it can be a wrong time to use him when he appears to be the last guy available(Grilli didn't pitch but it seemed like Dickey was next so Grilli probably wasn't available). It was just a tough spot after he threw 2 innings yesterday but they pretty much had no choice.

This is what I find really frustrating: the people who want to keep Sanchez in the rotation and claim that there's no evidence to back up the decision.

It's literally a multi-million dollar decision in a number of ways, and you think the Jays are making it based on A) an arbitrary innings limit, or B) a bit of anecdotal evidence?

What it really boils down to is whether or not you trust the research the Jays have been doing on trends in things like velocity, spin rate, release point, arm angle, etc. It seems like there's a pretty clear distinction here: the people who are ok with the current management are ok with (or at least understand) the move. The people who dislike or mistrust the current management for whatever reason think it's horrible.

With the addition of the high performance department in the offseason, I feel like we should trust that this decision is being made based on a lot of evidence.

Yes, because the numbers say he's healthy and there's no scientific precedent that says otherwise.

I might cry when Sanchez goes to the pen, he's been the highlight of the season so far. Hoping Liriano can become filthy again with Martin calling him.

houston – there are layers to this non-waiver trade deadline for the toronto blue jays, and that’s even before an examination of the aaron sanchez situation that is an entire onion on its own.

The acquisitions of francisco liriano plus well regarded prospects reese mcguire and harold ramirez from the pittsburgh pirates, swingman scott feldman from the houston astros and depth starter mike bolsinger from the los angeles dodgers was largely painless.

On a day when top 100 prospects were being flipped all over the place, drew hutchison was the only notable farm system asset the blue jays parted with, and that movie probably plays better in the national league central than it did in the american league east.

Interestingly, the currency the blue jays yielded to bolster their club was actual currency, as they ate the remainder of jesse chavez’s $4 million (who was sent to the dodgers for bolsinger) and franklin morales’s $2 million (designated for assignment to make better use of the roster spot), while picking up the roughly $4.5 million left for liriano this season plus the $13,666,667 he’s owed next year, and the $2.6 million still owed to feldman.

They didn’t get the biggest names in play – see the texas rangers, los angeles dodgers and cleveland indians for that – but nor did they need to. Instead, they swapped out a struggling swingman in chavez for one pitching well in feldman, replaced the triple-a depth hutchison provided with bolsinger and set themselves up for sanchez’s transition to the bullpen with liriano.

As a bonus, they added catcher reese mcguire and outfielder harold ramirez, both assigned to double-a new hampshire, and they’re now among the club’s top-10 prospects.

You know the team with the best lineup doesn't just get handed the World Series, right? Why are you so obsessed with the need to have the best offense while ignoring every other aspect of the game?
