Yanks are loading up on prospects, the Rangers made some excellent moves. Wish we could have acquired Archer or another starter, let's hope this means Sánchez stays in the rotation.

And Travis could be a star/near-star for the next decade...

My favorite part is when Zaun brings up that "Barney is having a career year offensively and deserves starts". Yes, he may be having a "career year offensively" but his wRC+ is still only 86

Zaun: "It might have been worth emptying the cupboard to get Rich Hill or Chris Sale."

Seriously, I like Zaun and his whole act, but does he even listen to himself? On what planet is Hill related to Sale?

I hate when insiders saying "XXXX may not be done" and then leave it for a while. Rarely pans out.

Gregg Zaun talking out of his ass again, maybe they should have emptied the farm for Sale. Goes from "the farm is relatively empty" to "empty it for Sale", you can't acquire a player like Sale with a "relatively empty" farm.

Sure I'm sure SRF, Tellez, Urena, and Pompey would have done it :sarcasm:

CWS would have asked for Sanchez+

Is Santana still pretty good? Or has he fallen off?

He's alright. He's not what he was a couple years ago, but he's an OK #4ish starter. Problem is that he might still have enough "brand name" cache to make people think he has more trade value than he does. I'd trade a couple of mid-tier prospects for him, but I'm not touching anyone in the top 5-7.

Why are the astros selling?

They traded Feldman. It's not like they traded four starters.

I would assume they either thought they were going to make another deal to replace Feldman with somebody better or they have somebody in the minors they're going to call up that is better.

Zaun is only worth listening to when he talks on-field stuff. The minute he puts on the GM hat he basically stops making any sense.

The reason they didn't do anything big was the "price" meaning the cost in prospects, not salary so that has nothing to do with big or small market, that's the point.

and yeah why would it matter in a few years when you go for it. I'm sure that's the mentality you had when trading Syndergaard back in the winter of 2012(if you knew who Noah was) because hey we're going for it now who cares when we suck in 3 years.

We're a good enough team now, and we'll still be a good team in 3 years if you don't trade the farm, we've seen this movie before, except some fans tend to not recognize it until they're whining in hindsight.

I was talking about David Price FFS. I specifically mentioned that they were small market because they didn't try to sign David Price the player. You seem to want to change the argument to trades for some reason.

Oh and I hated the Dickey trade from the start. That was just stupid. And if I was talking about trades (WHICH I AM NOT. I'm talking about David Price), you make good trades. That was not a good trade. Now, can you please stop with your straw man arguments?

Except in baseball it can.

Today is the non-waiver deadline. They can still make deals.

Of course it can. It can even in non-non-waiver deadline systems. It just rarely ever happens. It is a way to keep people paying attention. Media tactic.

also his comments on Hill. Empty the farm for Hill lol. Why would anyone do that? He hasn't threw more than 103 IP since 2007, and he's hurt. Not a horrible risk if it's cheap, but he's not someone I wanted, and certainly not an "empty the farm" guy

Zaun just likes throwing out buzz words

Rangers, Indians, and Red Sox all git much better, and the Jays basically did nothing. Rogers is a joke, they are not a small market franchise, but for some reason, they treat them like one. Shapiro and Atkins were a horrible fit here from the start. This team was/is built to win now. If it wasn't, why wouldn't you be trading guys Eddie, Jose, Happ, Estrada, etc.. There is an entire country behind this team, great attendance, great TV ratings, and that's not enough for this team and it's management to go for it?

I'm disappointed to say the least.

Yeh we get it. You keep posting the same thing over and over again. Most people are talking about IMPACT trades after the deadline which rarely happen unless you want to go back 25 years or so.

??

"Media tactic?"

What does that even mean?

All teams in the majors can continue to make deals after today. To do so, the players involved need to clear waivers.

It happens all the time, every year. Are they "blockbuster" franchise-changing deals? Not usually, but they still happen.

It's not a creation of the media. It's a legitimate part of the sport.

Pay attention. There will be a whole bunch of deals after today.

So what trade, pray tell, should we have done today? When I look at the Blue Jays, I see a team with virtually no holes outside of the bullpen, which was addressed in part today.

Zaun just likes throwing out buzz words

To compare Hill (a rental and garbage pitcher until this year, when he caught fire in Oakland and is still hurt) to Sale (a front of the rotation starter on an amazing contract) just shows what a loon Zaun is.

I still like him. But I don't take anything he says seriously.

You answered your own question. They should have addressed it in full. Or maybe tried to clear up the Sanchez issue.. The latter being a major issue.
