The Preds were better in this game. They gutted it out. Laviolette put a new system in place that seemed to confuse the Jets breakout big time. Laviolette must figure that the Preds have no hope going toe to toe with the Jets offense. They are going to try to take all the life out of the game. You need a bit of luck to win like that, such as the knob of a stick STOPPING the forward momentum of a puck. But you can definitely try. Interesting to see how the Jets adjust.
Yes the puck bounced their way along with the refs ... add in the Jets not skating = one loss.

Plain and simple the Preds protected their lead with solid neutral zone play and the Jets had no answer.

Don't get down two goals and the Jet's effort would have looked much different.

With that said where was the energy? Fans tonight were a disgrace. Maurice needed a time our to wake them up.

News flash, it's the Stanley Cup playoffs. Make some noise.

News flash the Jets responded from 3 goals down only a game ago on the back of crowd energy. You're all pitiful for waiting until there was a minute remaining to remind them you care.

News flash its been 31 years since a second round series has been played in Winnipeg. Pent up frustration alone should have had the MTS Centre buzzing. This is a coin flip league and the only edge is home ice.

Do your part Winnipeg! You all stank tonight. An utter embarrassment.

You got it Fonz - "great post as always" -- the Preds coach changed strategy, and decided to clog up the neutral zone, and the Blue line. Jet's forwards were trying to skate the puck in like last game, but were always "intercepted."--especially at the blue line.

Why couldn't Maurice have picked up on this change of play, and just told his guys like Ehlers, Laine, Scheif etc--just to shoot in the puck, and go in hard after it. The chances of getting possession that way, are a lot better than skating the puck in-- if Nashville changed their style to stop this practice by the Jets.

Smart strategy by the Pred's coach IMO.

Season's of dump and chase hockey should have prepared many on the team for this strategy. You're damn right Maurice should have changed tactics.

Jets are bigger and faster. If they couldn't skate it into the Nashville zone, dump it in and make the Preds blue line eat the boards. Even in a loss that strategy can reap dividends next game if you leave the opposition blue line black & blue.

I've yet to look at the underlying numbers but the eye test to me said Copp-Lowry-Tanev were the only line with zone time tonight. I wonder how they did it? At least one line figured it out tonight.

Apparently we missed the opportunity to go up 3-1 and lost our first home game in ages.

Apparently because I managed to spoil myself before seeing the game. Is there a recap anywhere? What did I miss? How did Jets play? :(

When you miss a game and have no PVR or NHL Centre Ice the next best thing is Condensed Games.

Blargh. Bland effort.

It was a great road game by Nashville. They played a tight game and capitalized on their few chances. They won as much as we lost.

One of the worst games by Laine so far IMO. Just nothing was going his way, until he scored a goal Rinne would want back. I do like that he was beat by velocity. He tracks the puck so well so you need to blast it by him with absolutely zero chance for a save. Laine did have some good scoring chances so maybe I'm too harsh, but it seems he could not give or receive passes or win any board battles. It happens.

Blender should have come out a bit sooner, it seemed to spark the team (good ol' ESL) but it was too late.

For a lot of guys these are the most important games they have ever played in their career, so in that sense it is no wonder many are regressing seemingly into rookies.

Question... did you think the Jets' best players looked energetic in the third? If not, do you think that overplaying them might have a role in that? Fresh legs are really important for the Jets to play their game. You can't have fresh legs in the playoffs if you are basically down to a 3 line team.
Well put. Somehow this point flies over the head of the people defending Mo's decision to play Hendricks, which is effectively crippling the 4th line and gives the Jets 3 lines to roll with in a play off series against the winners of the Presidents trophy.

I have completely given up hope that the ice time would be distributed in a balanced way. That is just not on the menu for some reason. Last time that happened was when Scheifele was injured and we went on a tear like never before.

Funny Pittsburgh has made it look easy in the second round of the playoffs against the Presidents Trophy winner the last couple of years.
Pittsburgh also went on to win the cup the last couple of years. Btw, do you know what other team was in the finals last year?

Somewhere nice
Losing hurt to us fans

Imagine how much losing hurts to players.

Its been 2 games now that Jets didn't do their job in the first.

Now their out of the Jets barn and staying in a hotel.
I hope

They score a couple in the 1st to throw off nashville trap game.

Maurice is a good coach but his in game adjustment is not that great. This is the 3rd game this year , the Preds adjusted their game against the Jets and they won.

If Maurice can adjust in the moment he would be one of the best coach of all time.

Jets team was lost, their like what happened to the speed game.

Its now time for them to adjust.
And that passive PK when will they learn it won't work with a team that have Preds Dman.
That Ardvisson, he has been camping in front of Helly all series. That guy needs to be flatten.

Still Jets came so far, this is actually a learning year but they have been so great that we forgot how young this team is.

Best of 3
I still take our Jets even with 2 road game.
I like it better its less pressure to the young guys.
If we get all our 4 lines back.
Line matching by Preds doesnt matter anymore.

GO JETS GO.

Believe

I agree. Hendricks on the fourth line is pretty darn close to us just icing a lineup one man short and going with 3 lines for the entire game. He essentially contributes nothing. He’s not even a good pk guy. And it has an effect on the whole team, not just his line.

Apart from lowry's line and hellybuck everyone laid a big stinking egg tonite.

Hendricks or Injured armia for speedy rolso anyday, Armia was not looking right. Hendricks looked as bad as he almost always is.

I say swap back Connor with Ehlers no chemeistry there IMHO with either top 2 lines.

The preds will come out blazing in nashville and it's our turn to lay the trap.

Didn't think we were terrible. Thought Rinne was awesome. And we made a handful of critical errors. You can't have that Copp, Hendricks line out for D zone faceoffs. Those two are an absolute disaster.

Hendricks was on for a goal against with his controller disconnected. It was a one goal game, which caused us to chase the game and allowed Nashville to revert to the trap. How are there people that don't think he had a negative impact?

Aside from the goal against, him only playing 6:42 is also a negative impact. He is brutal and can't be trusted in any situation, so our other players have to pick up his minutes and therefore are more tired. This isn't hard people. Its ok to say that Paul Maurice made a blunder.
I've been a Hendricks defender, but you are correct. It was one awful play after another. He was a huge liability

The crowd was fine, they feed off of what is happening on the ice, which after the 1st was little to nothing for the Jets. It's been said many times by the players and Maurice, they get a bump from the crowd when something happens. They got that in the 1st but couldn't push it over the edge. I got the sense everyone was still feeling good going into the 2nd but Nashville ground the game to a standstill and the Jets literally did almost nothing.

Screaming your head off as yet another play gets broken up in the neutral zone, or another pass gets picked off at their blue line, or yet another dump in gets quickly retrieved and flipped out, would seem a little out of place to me.

Nashville took the crowd out of the game, the Jets really did nothing to bring them back in. They have to play their part, they were disengaged for much of the night.

Really surprised how passive they were in the 3rd. Their failure to adjust was shocking really. It's the 2nd round of the playoffs guys, make a push for Christ sake.

Agreed. Crowds don’t really drive teams. Teams drive crowds. You can get a nice little positive feedback loop going like what happened during the magnificent comeback, but it starts with something on the ice, not something from the crowd.
