He had a massive year last year and they gave him a decent sized contract this summer. Can’t imagine that would be the case if he was THAT much of a problem, nor can I see the 6 games he’s played this year being a big enough sample size to quit on him.

Something happened. Period.

Devils, Senators and Kings have enough cap space and a couple other teams would if they waived someone. I’d be amazed if a team like the Senators wouldn’t take a chance on him.

I’d wager this likely has nothing to do with outright black and white political views and more likely to do with being explicitly told to cut the shit with the insane stuff and just...not. It’s about protecting the brand.

More likely to do with performance/attitude if I had to guess, though.
you know what, there are millions of NYR fans who don't give a flying f about his views being unacceptable to *some*. Or about his views at all.

I'm not sure how many teams would take him without getting the full story on what happened and I doubt NYR will be willing to brief other teams about this in the next 12 hours

Because you don't waive him like this just because of on-ice reasons. It has to do with something off the ice, get him off the team ASAP.

Or at least I refuse to believe that our FO would be that dumb with asset management just waiving him to bring up a new defender.

If this is the end of his time with the Rangers, there must be a trade coming, right? Can't go with Johnson-Smith for the rest of the year.

I don't think most of you ever really understood NYC or its politics and what a shitty decision it was to even try to bring a player like him in here. The fact he wouldn't shut his mouth even after being given up on twice and ending up in the last place where his shit would be tolerated... If you did you either don't understand NY or you are completely delusional. Tony is a great skater and a good offensive talent. He is a shitty defender. He just wasnt the caliber of player to overlook all the off the field stuff which in NY is magnified.

Yeah and he was such a valuable asset no one wanted him. I swear some of you are delusional.
